Private party transaction market research
I'm looking for market research showing what people actually sell their used cars for, not what they're asking. There's lots of variables to consider, but something like this would be valuable for identifying trends.
KBB is a guideline, but surely there's something that reflects reality? |

It would be interesting data. I think a lot of people keep that close to their chest, for tax reasons or ???
For example, in the VW world, I see cars advertised for beaucoup dollars, but you never hear what they actually sell for; both the buyers and sellers are tight-lipped about the deal.

I could see data collection being tricky, as you say. Lots of people under-report the sale price on the BOS, and would be reluctant to incriminate themselves. You'd need to make it completely anonymous so it wouldn't be tracked back to the buyer/seller.

Two sources that are free I use as a real bench mark is 1) Ebay sold listings 2) Haggerty Ins > Valuation tools.
