When they started all the rules about hitting quaterbacks, Jack Lambert said they need to put skirts on them, it has gone down hill since then.

Give them back their leather helmets and thin pads and see how it goes. There is really no need for NFL or college ball to be unlimited cage fighting. At one time it was a sport.

I love seeing a back lowering his head and getting another 3 yards on the carry rather than scampering out of bounds trying to extend his career.
Big punishing running backs like Earl Pruitt, John Riggins, and Walter Payton made the sport what it is, and now they want to take it away ? |

Ever compare the size of players from the 60's, 70's to today's? Player's today ARE bigger AND HIT MUCH HARDER. Listen to 'da Coach Ditka on some of the networks or interviews and he'll say it. The NFL is trying to put out fires.... lawsuits, head trauma.
Somewhat related, who was the POTUS that ordered a ban on the head ram and gang tackle? This was long before the NFL. Was it Teddy Roosevelt?? (kudos to Jack Lambert. At the time he was actually considered small but one of the best!)

Changes need to be made to the game and the equipment. Otherwise, we may just as well throw away all pretense and call them gladiators and have them fight to the death for our entertainment.

If you don't want to get hit, either don't play the game or learn to run like Barry Sanders. The game is inherently dangerous, I never made it beyond high school ball due to injuries to my knees, and I am reminded of it every single day.
I made the decision to play, I took the risk, and I suffer the consequences, and if I had it to do all over again, you better believe I would. Knowing what I know now the only thing I would change is I would hit harder. Basketball is a game for people who don't want to deal with big fast people trying to separate your chest from your midsection, football is a fast violent CONTACT sport. (well it used to be)

The way I see it, is they get paid an awful lot of money and with that money comes risk. Think of the money the tower repair man makes, there are lots of people who do dangerous things for work and get paid nothing compared to these guys.
They will all be crying when no one wants to watch and the money dries up. Dean
