Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid

I may have found my next daily driver... the Crosstrek has the ground clearance of a Forester and the same full-time AWD system.

the intro is at the NY Auto Show

only problem is that my Forester is just a few years old

My office manager just bought one. It's not bad, depends on what you like. I would say its more on the utility side then sport.

I have not driven the hybrid version but, I have put a lot of miles on the gas version (both automatic and stick). I think it is a fun little rig. It is only a couple inches taller than the Legacy sedan. I was under the assumption that it is built in the Integra platform as they are both in the same service schedule book at the dealer. Its MPG is also much closer to the Integra than the fuelish Forester. Now I'll have to go look it up to be sure. As it is I will get to drive the hybrid version the day it comes to the nearby dealership....since I am working there 3 days a week now for my beer money

From Edmunds.com

Quote:
The Crosstrek is essentially an Impreza hatchback with additional wheel travel and refined suspension tuning for off-road or broken-pavement midtown adventures.

Based on the fully redesigned Impreza that debuted last year, the XV Crosstrek offers the same 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder that generates 148 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and the XV Crosstrek offers a choice of a five-speed manual or continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). But Subaru wants us to think of the XV not as an Impreza variant, but as its own model (even though it will be called "Impreza XV" in other world markets).

do you find the gas version lacking in mid-range torque?

every time I test drive one of their CVT vehicles, that's what hits me - the EV aspect should fix that...

BTW - Sube is also gong to preview a performance car - most think it will be the new WRX

The CVT is great for gas mileage, but I would rather drive a stick any day of the week. I think that most of the cars with CVT lack in midrange torque.

needs more XT, stick and limited slip rear diff. If available, would already own one.

That front end looks like a direct rip-off of Audi styling.

Not bad, but I really like that silver concept.
