So we have this old F250.....HELP!

Hello All,

So our 1991, F250 doesnt start......simple diagnosis is no spark. So I did the easy stuff, replaced the coil, battery was old so put a new one in, new rotor and cap, still nothing, then remembering I had ECM problems years ago I swapped out the ECM....nothing.

Any ideals?

Thanks Pelicans!!
mg

Did you check the ignition control module on the side of the distributor?

Would the igntion control module result in no spark at the coil? Thats where I am checking for spark and I have nothing!
Thanks again!

Yes. I used to replace soo many of these back in the day, that I did not even bother to diagnose them. I would just bolt a new one on whenever one would come in with no spark. I always kept one on the shelf

On my vehicle I've got a dark green yellow wire going from the coil to the Control Module and then a white light blue wire going to the EEC power relay. I would check to see if you're getting any current there.

Oh yeah, I would agree with Fast Freddie. Just replace the thing. They're not expensive.

It is s special tool to get at the two bolts holding it on. I cannot remember the size of the bolt head, but it is a super thin walled socket. The parts stores used to carry them. In a pinch, you can grind down a 1/4 inch socket. to fit in there. I'll look to see if I can find mine, funny, I have not replaced one of these in years .

I did find it down in the deep recesses of the drawer of forgotten tools. If you cannot source one locally, let me know, I'll send it to ya, as long as you promise to send it back.
