Leave Socal for Denver, just maybe....
Fiddling with the idea of moving to Denver. Have Aunt, Uncle, and cousins in the area. Traveling a bunch for work so I could live there easily.
Any particular parts of town I should be thinking about? Although the thought of a bunch of land is interesting I think something more master planned fits our needs. Bryce loves being able to head outside and knock on the house next door to play. What areas are up and coming? What areas are sliding? Family friendly is a must. Thanks as always for your input.

Cool!
My first suggestion is that you determine what "easy airport access" is, as you mentioned flying a lot. I fly weekly, and I live right in town. My airport trip is 45 minutes with no traffic. If (less than 30 minutes) easy airport access is important to you, you've sort of narrowed your choices to flat land out east/NE/SE. Far, far, from the mountains. Nothing wrong with that, though. If you want some acreage or something it's definitely attainable and you could find a good neighborhood. If you want to be closer to the hills you might have to up your airport ride to an hour or 1:15 or something, and there's still some good options. Are you talking seven figures, or six, or five? That'll help too.

Hey Chris,
I made the move in 1996; grew up in Claremont, went to school in Irvine and then UCSD. Denver's pretty perfect but I do miss Del Mar and Encinitas where I was living just before coming here, at times. I did the master planned thing here for about ten years. The biggest master planned area is Highlands Ranch/Lone tree and I lived in both. You couldn't drag me back there. Everything in the 'burbs is beige, the people all look the same; picture Newport Coast on a budget and you'll get the idea. It's very much like South OC where you are now, though. It's less than 20 miles south of Downtown Denver. The real charm of Denver for me are the older, close in neighborhoods like Bonnie Brae, Washington Park, Hilltop, and Cherry Creek. These areas are between fifty and a hundred years old, have many families mixed in with older people, are diverse, and incredibly livable. On a nice evening, my neighborhood streets are filled with walkers of all ages. Feel free to PM me and we can chat about the transition. Jesse |

Arvada is a great area. Minutes from the foothills and about 45 minutes from both the mountains and the airport. Low crime, Great schools and a mix of older and newer houses.
We have a house built in 1963 sitting on a 1/2 acre in a nice established neighborhood. Enough land to have a nice yard and a extra back garage. About an hour away from our new track too.
