The gheyest thing I have seen in a long time

Three -- count 'em -- THREE guys tootling down the highway, each on his own Can-Am bass-ackwards trike, each with its own mini-trailer.

WTF?

Who buys those things? And who would want to be seen in public riding one, let alone riding one in a ghey train of three of them?

I see those around all the time. I really don't get it. Might be fun to ride, but I find it just about criminal you can get a motorcycle endorsement while testing on of those. The skills to stay up on two wheels are totally different than with those.

Maybe the skinny jeans have more to do with it than we think. Metrosexual motorbike....they don't scuff their patent leather Gucci loafers putting their feet down when they stop.

I don't get it either. I might be willing to go the T-Rex route, but I don't like the Can Am.

Do you know what's even worse?

Training wheels

Yeah, they may add functionality or safety, but jeez. Everytime I see them I think "training wheels".

My buddys dad got t-boned on his cruiser with his wife on the back of the bike. Both got pretty messed up.

He doesn't feel comfortable riding a 2 wheeler anymore so he went with a can-am.

He is having a blast. Not sure his exact age but closer to 80 than 70.

Seems like a great way to enjoy the freedom without some of the challenges for the older folks.

When I can't hold up a 2 wheeler I'll consider some sort of compromise. Prolly a hack though, not a three wheeler.

And I don't see how the Can am is a motorcycle as it steers with two wheels not one.

Yes, but a Ural doesn't do much over 60 mph. I guess a tricycle makes sense for the elderly or disabled that still want their knees in the breeze. But that's about it.

That seems more dangerous than a motorcycle to me.

Considerably less manuverable, and can't fit in a lane with a car.

I think the ability to split lanes (including filtering to the front at red lights) is a huge, huge safety advantage on a motorcycle. Done sensibly, it allows you to stay clear of traffic to the max extent possible.

Can-Ams are awesome.. The Sport model is a blast to drive. You can't compare them to a two wheeler obviously, but they do have their place. Ive recently been looking to get one soon.. They are not intended to be ridden like a sport bike, but if I wanted to ride 500+ miles, it would absolutely take one of these over a two wheeler. You have to think of them like a Sea-Doo or snowmobile as far as how to ride them if that makes any sense.

For the money you pay to have one, why not just buy a Miata.

Sat at work, we were talking about the Can-Am (one of the things mentioned (about the training wheels, not the Can-Am) was that a sidecar was a very cool way to go about adding an extra wheel.

I don't ride, but I assume they aren't as stable as something like the Can-Am.

How does a Can-Am make him any safer? You're just as invisible to the type of driver who would t-bone you, just as exposed as on a two-wheeler, far less maneuverable, probably not as fast and with a heavier machine to have land on top of you.

I am dying laughing at this thread.

My wife and I have a thing about spoting these rediculous vehicles which always seem to have a fat...I mean fat, rider.

Nothing more exciting than a reverse trike with a thumb throttle, no gears, and enough saddle/storage packs to fit a dismantled 911 in.
