Shelby GT500-Based Shelby 1000 S/C Has 1200 HP - WOT on Motor Trend

ltusler 03-24-2013 06:59 AM

Yeah, but can it turn a corner?

pwd72s 03-24-2013 08:50 AM

Probably not...the word in Mustang circles seems to be that if you want handling, buy a Roush model...if you go for the power, buy a Shelby.

Matters not, I guess because if I had one of these I'd either be in jail or dead in short order.

Stick to your "well set up" 944's, guys...

$210K for a Mustang...

I think I'll pass.

Chocaholic 03-24-2013 10:42 AM

A 2005 Ford GT (40) would be my preference....and leave $60k left over for tickets and gas!

yetibone 03-24-2013 10:57 AM

Paul's right. Nobody in their right mind is going to pay $210K for a Mustang.

"Shelby American says that 40 to 50 customers purchased its 2012 Shelby 1000 S/C muscle car, which made 1100 horsepower."

Sooooo, Shelby American can't quite figure out the number of people that bought one of these behemoths; - are you gonna trust them to give an accurate account of the horsepower?

Rob Channell 03-24-2013 01:38 PM

Still less horsepower than the most powerful 917, right? Eventually someone had to catch up with Porsche from 1973....

Can you imagine how loud the squeaks would be from all that cheap hard plastic will be when it's twisted by 1200 hp?
Like fingernails on a chalk board.

Shelby made two horsepower levels in the 2012 car..4 out of 5 chose the highest horsepower model, even though it wasn't street legal. The 1,000 horsepower model was.

Definitely quiet would be a HUGE priority when buying a 1,200 horsepower car.
