Been in a gun store lately?

Went into a good sized independent store....the shelves were damn near bare and what was available was 20% higher than a few months ago. Even accessories were on back order.

I ended up getting my extra Uncle Mike's speed-loader pouch and HKS #36a five shot holder from Amazon of all places. I'd like to support my local shop but when they have no stock and jack up prices.....fuggetaboutit....

$26 to my door. No mark up....tax and shipping.

Buddy of mine has a small shop, only prices that have gone up are new stock items that he had to pay more to get. No gouging going on.

The problem for the small, independent shops is that they can't get inventory to sell, so they have to jack up the price on what's left to make rent. It was nice when everything flew of the shelves in November and December, but now they've got nothing to sell.

My local independent shop has managed by keeping large static orders with its suppliers. They say their orders get filled first because they are ordering the same as always. (We were selling five ARs a month when you couldn't give them away, so now we expect our same 5 ARs a month.) They aren't marking anything up, but are limiting quantity.

i am in the local shop about every other week.... it is madness. no stock, no reloading stuff, everything is marked up. the store looks almost like they are having a going out of business sale, relative to, say, three months ago.

22LR=$38/500 rounds
entry level rock river AR15=$2000
used ruger 10/22=$280

you get the idea.

Been in 3 stores this past week. Most of them had stock...one store looked a little bare, but they weren't hurting for variety. Ammo on the other hand is being rationed at about two boxes per day per customer. The prices are fair with some things on sale and others around MSRP. I know last month some of the stores were really bare but the factor here was they were waiting on newer models. Not sure if the new models came in already or they just figured on restocking some until then. But February is looking much better than January did in the stores.

yup. true story. POS ak's are going for nearly $700. these are ak's with some miles. ridiculous. .223 ammunition that was $8/20 is now $14/20, etc.

The gun biz just can't lose with the NRA on their side and massacres happening left and right, which of course get people talking about new gun laws and spur panick buying.

I can't imagine anyone in the USA not having the guns they need at this point, awfully weird demand spike. Or is it just artificial shortages?

Don't EVEN get me started. It's like mass hysteria. 3 deep at the counter all day. A dedicated phone person for background checks. My repairs too are way up. Parts are still available at normal prices, shipping is slow. I raised my hourly light repair rate from $30 to $40 per hr. and I'm being selective about what type of jobs I'm doing for the store. My core biz of restoration is steady, more than I can do as one person sometimes. What I do takes time, if your in a hurry you will have to go someplace else. I base my reputation on the quality of my work. If I rush the quality suffers and 1 dissatisfied customer here tells 10. It's a small town.

Prices...........

Went to a gunshow on Saturday. 22r/f bricks (500 rds) were marked $80! That's 16 cents a round folks! Saw some PTR91 rifles (HK91 clones) for $3 grand. I paid $1K for mine several months ago! Centerfire pistol ammo was $35/box of 50 or more. The only thing that I saw that was reasonable was some 7.62x54 (Russian rimmed round) for $140 for 440 round sealed can. Almost made me buy a Moisin Nagant bolt action! Great place to be a seller!

Have you ever shot a Moisin? Man they bite. Loud, big flash, recoil, but accurate. well for a $100.00 rifle at least.

I have been to the Oak Tree store recently in Santa Clarita. The shelves were full, at least in the bolt action and shotgun long gun section. What I didn't get is service, so I walked out again. They must be very tired. I actually do need to buy a rifle for a hunt coming up and dread having to go to the store and deal with the crowds and the annoyed salespeople. I may instead find one I can borrow.

I don't get it either. Like I have commented before, nobody wakes up today and says "cr@p, I need an AR before it is too late". If you wanted one, you'd have one by now, especially after the first wave of gun buying when Obama was elected

Gun show here last weekend. I didn't go, but I'm told AR15's were $2000+, .223 ammo was 200 rounds for $250, etc.

Wallyworld hasn't had ammo in months.
