Hugh,just messin with you.;)
Interesting science,I have AB- blood and was wondering if genetic markers could point to a time when it appeared on earth. My Family has been traced back to Belgium/France/Ireland.
I would love to know more.

Here is the last one.

Branch: L21
Age: 5,500 – 12,000 Years Ago
Location of Origin: West Asia

Today, members of this lineage are widely distributed across Europe and West Asia. They reach their highest frequency in Ireland where they and descendant branches contribute to between 35 and 38 percent of the male population. This line is 6 to 7 percent of male lineages in France. It is between 1 and 2 percent of male lineages in Germany. It is 2 to 4 percent of male lineages in Portugal and Spain. It is about 2 percent of the male population in Croatia. It is also present in some paternal lineages from the Ashkenazi Jewish population.

Note: This branch is not accompanied by a major movement on the map, and research on this branch is continuing.

Waiting to send mine in right now...

But this the test doesn't tell you anything about the recent past. It is all 10K years out. It tells you very roughly where your Y-DNA originated from & its migrations (actually mutations). If you are looking for your great, great, great grandfather, this is a total waste of money.

Hugh

That site I hotlinked to is a goldmine of info if you want to dig a bit deeper. Just start clicking in their Genetics & Anthropology Section. Eupedia

It looks like our last common relative was 25,000 years ago. And we parted ways somewhere east of the Caspian Sea.

I'm guessing that almost all of us will have the same ancestor up to M89? Since he is the ancestor of 90-95% of non-Africans. So that the non-common stuff will be at the last stage, L for HughR?

I may send mine in. I should have zero European ancestry, I'm guessing?

The M168 marker (the next one back) would be virtually all of us. Wiki has a good tree & description here.
