Sidney Crosby ....

of the Pittsburgh Penguins got his jaw broken when the puck hit him. This kid seems accident prone. Now take Wayne Gretzky- never seemed to get body checked, the puck never seemed to hit him.He had amazing situational awareness. S. Crosby could learn a thing or two about Wayne's ability to avoid bad situations....was Gretzky lucky or did he have that extra sense? Any ideas?

Gretzky had eyes in the back of his head he always knew what was going on around him. I don't think Crosby is as elite a player that the great one was. But it's also a different time so not exactly comparing apples to apples. I do agree Sid the kid seems to be an accident waiting to happen. Hope he recovers quickly he is a good hockey player.

Things have changed. Crosby's first concussion was from hard glass rattled his skull, Gretzky never had that. Number two was a guy that's a lot taller giving him the shoulder to the chin. McSorely would have seen to that.

Gretzky did have a serious back issue after Gary Suter cross-checked him from behind. Not coincidentally there was no enforcer on that team.

Anyone can get a puck deflected into their face. But in the end Crosby plays a much more physical game than Gretzky ever did. They are only comparable in points or effectiveness , not in style.

Well said and thank you. I would have replied with something similar but didn't want to come across as a homie.

Men are bigger, faster, more aggressive, & more talented in general. The game is faster with the same amount of ice. Kindasortamaybe like the NBA having the same height on the net with players being much taller... with the exception of no danger, (or very little comparatively speaking). The Great One played under different rules both written & unwritten.

Not a Cindy fan but that was an ugly shot and he took it like a hockey player . No tears no drama. Nasty googly.

most people getting hit like that would bend down fall forward, not throw his gloves up in the air and do a nice turning spinning back flip move..

Think hes the only one who's ever had teeth knocked out in hockey? Several players have had the teeth knocked out and finished the game. I'm not saying it didn't hurt. I'm sure it hurt like holy jeebus. Just his style to over react..

Apparently you are more of a man than Sid or I. I've had a broken jaw and know the pain.
I wouldn't even wish it on you Mine was wired shut course that was back in the day. Talk about a diet plan

I'm surprised it took so long for the haters to post. Next time you get hit the face with a 100 mph puck, I'm sure you'll handle it differently.

I'm not a fan of the way Cindy reacts to things but in this case I don't think he was over-reacting. Losing teeth is one thing. Having your jaw broken is another.

In reference to "it was a different time" when Gretzky played... Yes it was. Slower but a lot tougher. Penalties called today were just business as usual back then. That is why the enforcer was and is a part of the game.

Anyone who thinks that there is any acting involved in Sid's injury needs to get a grip on reality.

That's akin to suggesting people act during a car crash. Love him or hate him, Sid took a hard shot to the chin which broke his jaw. I lost two teeth in a similar manner, I have no idea what happened or how I reacted. I suspect without the video Sid would be the same way.

Absolutely right Joe - it is one hell of a shock to the system. Off-topic: getting Jagr might prove to be the charm for your "boys"
Cheers

It certainly would be a lively debate. Even Gretzky admitted that if he played under the current rules he would not have scored as many points. He was awesome for sure. A better debate would be Mario and Wayne. Unfortunately health issues hampered Mario.

It's Karma guys. Sid, or Iggy had to go down.

Captain Over-rated (Iggy) pulled the last second shat, and screwed the Flames over. I want to play with Sidney, or no trade. The deal with Boston was done, and Iggy changed it from a list of 4 to a list of 1.

*Note to GM's* ... stop giving out No-trade clauses, unless you get like a 50% cut in salary.

I was thinking right after I heard the crap he pulled.... it would be good if Iggy got injured first play, gone for the year, and Pittsburg wins without him. I don't think he'd get his name on the cup for one regular season shift.

Anyway... Go Boston

Gretzky played in a different era but he also played with different equipment. Can you imagine him using a composite stick instead of lumber?

Iguana really showed his lack of respect for the game when he did the Bruins (and the Flames) that way but I don't wish an injury on anyone. I'd rather see him play healthy and LOSE! I have a feeling the Pens will have a tough time trading him someday since everyone will wonder if they are betting on a no-show.

Jagr may be an asset to the Bs if he can be a team player. They win by committee. I don't think they need a superstar who only wants to shoot instead of feed, pass, block... He'll have to learn to play Bruin hockey.
