What's up with Ohio?

What is going on in Ohio that is spurring pockets of growth? I was in Cincinnati OH for a job interview last Friday and was astonished to see so much new development. The dregs of the old industrial machine can still be seen, but there is real growth right next to it.

I can't put my finger on it, but western OH seems to be thriving. Anyone see this too?

Auto industry is almost back to pre-recession levels?

red-beard 04-02-2013 10:32 AM

Deregulation and right to work state. It is becoming easier to startup a business there.

O/G? I do quite a bit of work in the Utica shale.

I didn't notice anything, but that was from 34,000 feet.

Honda is the second-largest employer in Ohio. (State of Ohio is #1).

Honda recently created a new support organization and many of the new functions will be based in Troy and Marysville. Some jobs will move from Torrance, CA.

FYI...

Findlay (where I live near) in NW Ohio, has never stopped growing. We make alot of parts for the auto industry, and cost of living is cheap.

mgatepi 04-02-2013 12:48 PM

Lots of auto parts manufacturing, but I really do not see property values or incomes going anywhere!!! Growth maybe an over statement......Not crashing anymore.....likely.

Ssshhh, don't let our secret out :)

I've been here for 4 years now after relocating from Atlanta and live in Mason but work downtown. Cincy is a neat city and the entire area is very family friendly.

We picked Mason because of the schools and community. Feel free to shoot me a PM with your phone number if you'd like to talk or have any questions about the area.

BTW, there are a bunch of other Pelicans here in the area so your car would fit right in.

My sister lives in Covington, KY and works in Cincy. She works for the Department of Energy. Lots of government work in Cincy.

I must live just south of your sister Hugh, here in N. KY.

Grew up just north of Cincy & lived here my whole life. Great area. Easy to criticize during the winter months. Look around. You actually get a LOT more for your money in Northern Kentucky in most cases ( in my opinion). Right now I work both in Dayton & in Louisville, that's a big reason why I'm here, but taxes are good on this side of the muddy Ohio, only real pain over here is the annual re-registration tax on cars... (Though its next to nothing on the old Porsche)

Are there any Porsche mechanics that know the old MFI systems in the area?

Ditto. As much traveling as I've been lucky to do, the one thing I love the most is coming home. It's a great place to raise a family.

Fairly solid amount of tech in the area as well. Don't rule out the central suburbs either.

No, Mason OH is strictly for Republicans. Doug E. can correct me if I'm wrong. :D
