network cameras
I've done some duct tape fixing and set up "network based" cameras using old computers and webcams.
Now, with multiple pregnancies in the college's teaching zoo (I have an alibi, thanks) there is support from The Powers That Be (or control purchase orders) to set up a real streaming solution. So... I need a wireless network based camera that I can view the live stream from VLC with (which I can then transcode and pass off to a wowza media server). I've checked Axis, and the only wireless cameras they have are for indoor use - we need outdoor ready.... Power is already available at all enclosures/exhibits.... Suggestions? |
build a small water proof enclosure with a glass side to mount the cameras in.

The Peregrine Fund is streaming a nest in Boise right now, maybe contact them and see what they use?

Bosch makes very nice products, allows both to stream over IP and record on DVR.

I'm surprised that most of the home security cameras aren't weather proof
I assume you've looked into those |

We use some webcams that are outdoor rated on our Billboards. However they only grab a shot every 10secs or so, not a true streaming video

Mobotix.. will stream direct to media server without additional software
Not wireless ... but add Ubiquiti Nanostation. http://www.mobotix.com/eng_US/ http://www.ubnt.com/airmax#nanostationm |
