Resale Value
I buy used (sometimes just slightly used) and hold the car a long time, but I still thought it might be interesting (maybe even to speeder :D) to have a thread on resale value.
Here are some cars with the lowest resale value: Kia Sedona LX (mini-van) Chevrolet Impala LT Jeep Liberty Limited Sport 2WD Suzuki Grand Vitara Premium RWD Jaguar XJ AWD ("Despite improvements and industry recognition for their new products, Jaguar still suffers from a historical perception of negative quality that impacts (the car's) resale value in the used market..." - they suggest the Porsche thing that looks like the Acura hatchback as a lower depreciation hit) - data from Intellichoice |
All Jags are cheap. You can get a fine luxury car for a lot less than other models.
A lot less. I paid 3500 for mine and when something major breaks I'll just throw it away and get another. That could be the case for many of the low resale value cars. |
Any luxury car with a V12.
I have wondered why the mid-90s straight six XJs are so cheap. They seem to be fairly reliable, and they are still very nice cars. Maybe just having a 12 cylinder car in the same body style has hurt their resale value? |
Saabs have really low resale value. Good for me though. I've had several 900SE Turbos that were fantastic all-around cars.

On the flip side, Jeep Wranglers have the most incredible resale value of anything I have looked at. It is a real challenge to find a decent Wrangler for under $10k, and the 4-door Unlimited models (2007+) are still $20k+. A brand new Rubicon Unlimited was under $30k in 2007, and they're still selling for 2/3 that. Crazy...... |
I imagine that all models of Saturn and Saab will have a severely discounted resale value in the near future because of scarcity of parts.

Land Rover Defender & Acura NSX are two of the best. It's seems anything Mercedes have been terrible in the past 10 years.
