Rally car question
Hey guys,
What suspension modifications needed to convert p-car such as this: http://images.fineartamerica.com/ima...lain-jamar.jpg to this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354037226.jpg If you have pics please, Thank you, -Y. |
Look on the 911 tech forum using the search words "rally" and "rallye." Lots of threads.

been exploring this a while myself. I compete in rally in western us in a FWD dodge neon and wanted to bring my love of air cooled P-cars to my love of rally.
IMO, that second pic is overkill for US rally ground clearance. You only need 2-4" of more travel than stock. Deciding on whether to run torsionbar or go to coilovers is the first decision. Then you need to modify front coilovers with raised spindles while keeping steering geometry correct. Tuthill porsche in the UK seems to be the undisputed company doing prep of historic p-car for rally. Getting the chassis prepped (FIA cage) and protected is the number one priority. This includes running fuel, oil and brake plumbing that is protected. Running and prepping a rally porsche, for me, is just too much money to be justifiable. the cost in fixing broken items resulting from a minor/moderate off is just too prohibitive. Moreover, i have been talked out of having a rear engine'd car in gravel due to the predisposition of the car to swap ends under loose threshold braking. This last point could be BS, but I buy into the theory. |
