Porsche race teams?
What's up with the Porsche race teams? If I understand it correctly Brumos is leaving and Flying Lizards is only doing cup? Saw Patrick Long run the Grand Am at Road Atlanta recently the same day ALMS Long Beach was running? Something doesn't seem right. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan wheather we win or not but it seems Porsche has been struggling to reach the top lately.

The Lizards went to Cup this year because Porsche discontinued factory support for the current GT3 RSR. The switch to Cup means they can hire out a seat to a customer. GTC while competitive is not to the level of the GT class in ALMS so there is aways a chance to win.
Porsche is focusing on P1.

The other reason is the fact that it has a teeny tiny window of performance that most of the teams who ran it in 2012 had difficulties in getting it set up to extract max performance. When it was on, it was fast, but it was a crap shoot every weekend to nail it esp. when factoring in weather and tires. A lot of the teams abandonded it this year for that reason in conjunction w/ withdrawl of factory support.

Thanks for the feedback.
P1 for Porsche is 2014 right? There are a couple other teams in GT continuing without factory support then. In the racing arena, do you think factory support will come back maybe after the P1...say in 2015? I think it would be a sad day if Porsche was out of GT all together although I am glad they are entering P1. |

P1 is for 2014.
The future of GT factory support is largely dependant on the success of the current 991 GTE car that Porsche factory is campaigning in the WEC this year. I believe the 991 GT3 is still a year or two away - that platform will be the basis of future factory GT customer programs.
