Sins I've been witness to.........
or should I say, Why real estate attorneys shouldn't be allowed to restore Porsche's.
When you sand blast an engines compartment you really need to remove the motor. Just covering it with plastic doesn't really do the trick. The media gets everywhere and by the time your minimum wage employee gets done blowing all the crap out of there he's really just managed to blow it into the fan housing and other hard to see areas. That grinding noise coming from the generator wasn't bad bearings as you suggested to your customer, it was sand in the brushes and end cap. ![]() Pack enough sand in there and you can actually block off the air flow. Not good considering these cars are air cooled. ![]()

G'day!

All I can think of when looking at those photos is how easy it would be to change out the plugs....
But your point is well taken, Kevin. Thanks for the post! ![]()

I was taught that if you can't weld, you use brass. It's one step up from a hot glue gun.
![]() Why invest time and money in tools and experience when a 1/4' of bondo will do? ![]()

I'm bringing a 914 back to life right now that shares several attributes.
I started taking the paint off on the driver's door- 1st layer- rattle can resale red. 2nd layer- very nice primer job done by someone other than rattle can guy 3rd layer- brass melted into some rusted seams and several gallons of bondo 4th layer- yellow respray that seems like it was done in the 80's or early 90's. 5th later- primer for said yellow. 6th layer- factory paint. 7th layer- bare metal.

Too big to fail

I actually saw a baja bug going down Sunrise with the motor in that configuration - not a lick of tin on it! It had the fan mounted to the generator, and a belt turning it, but it was hanging out in the open - there was no fan shroud. I really, really, really wish I'd had a camera handy.
