Best food thermometer ever, $19!!!

ThermoWorks RT600C Super-Fast Pocket Thermometer

A friend has the high dollar folding model and I was blown away by how well it works. Also loved the thin tip that doesn't leave a pencil sized hole in your food. Didn't have the bucks for the folder but ordered the one in the link. I've been using it for several months now and have to say it is amazing. Thin tip and very fast. Love it.

I've used it for a while, thanks to ATK, just have some spare batteries on hand. I've left it on a few times by mistake. No complaints. The more expensive version reads a little faster but so far I havent found that necessary.

There are lots of complaints of dead batteries with the ThermoWorks products on Amazon.

Let us know if it still works in a few months. Otherwise sounds like a good value.

Americas Test Kitchen always recommends the $100 folding one in their testing.

I use the other one atk likes-the cdn quick read-17 bucks, reads to 450 so you can use it for candy and deep frying. The thermapen is really cool but can't justify the dollars.

Same here. I havent never made candy and if I ever deep fry much, any other reason to need the 450 deg reading?

Bought mine in December I think.

It does turn off manually and I make sure to do that each time.

My chicken has benefited the most from it. I'm pretty comfortable with the push test on steaks but rotisserie chicken and even just breasts get pulled much quicker now with no fears of cutting one open and finding pink.

Thanks for the tip and will take your suggestion.

We're on our second digital, same price but poor design. Battery / contact issues and when needing a change the board seperates from the flimsy solder and fine wire to the probe - first unit was bad right out of the package. Wife dropped another in milk and after a rinse did survive.

BTW: How about a kitchen gadget thread? Ratings, big name brand products that might be over-rated, etc.
