Just had my '84 Cab out for a quick spin after washing it. Got tailgated for several blocks by someone in a well-worn early '90s Ford Taurus crapbox. When I signaled for the right turn into my street he sped past illegally in the opposing lane.

Maybe he was actually rich and was being a jerk? Maybe I shouldn't judge a crappy old beater car by its crapness?

I believe such programming might very well appeal to the "masses", of which many have a 'victim-mentality' that the reason why they are not successful in life is...someone else if responsible.

The village-idiots I see coming out of the woodwork are when I drive my 911 at normal speed just minding my business. Now everyone wants to show me how slow their car is(or the Mom in a minivan slicing off the nose of my car doing a 6-lane sweep moving from the car-pool lane to the exit...while there is 100 yards of clear distance behind me). Yet when I drive my clapper Corolla at the same rate of speed...I am invisible.

This is now a nation of the grossly "entitlement" mindset wanting everything living on a Honda Civic budget. ***** em'..."I bury those cockroaches"

nope, I don't think that's the case. Plenty of jerk drivers out there of all socioeconomic strata.

My take on it (and why I wasn't shocked) was some rich folks have a sense of entitlement. And that sense of entitlement no doubt carries over onto the roadways.

IIRC within the last year there was a university-level study that demonstrated BMW drivers were less likely to stop for pedestrians in a cross walk.

I think certain drivers of certain brands of cars have that road entitlement as Noah mentioned. Around here, BMW drivers tend to be the biggest dicks on the road.

Audi took over here. I hate being on the roads between 5-7 pm when all of the executives that live near me are coming home. Speed limit on the main drag is 40. I drive 50 and they blow by like I'm sitting still.

I don't believe stupid is limited to income in this case. I've been cutoff in traffic by the nicest newest Mercedes to the most run down P.O.S on the road.

I agree that socio-economics don't come into it. People are just too lazy to drive politely and safely. Cutting of corners at T junctions is the most numerous offence that I notice, any kind of car, any driver under about 40. Not observing lane discipline in roundabouts is the second most numerous, and here it applies to any age group.
Audi drivers have long usurped the most discourteous driver title from BMW drivers here in the UK, tailgating being their favourite pastime.

So this "study"concluded that drivers of "nicer" "more expensive" cars tend to be jerks...the video mentions this, but how "nice" a car someone drives may have little correlation with their socioeconomic status. They should have added: drivers who own vs. drivers with low mileage leases of said "nice" cars.

Yeah, I don't think income has much to do with it. I know plenty of people that don't have a pot to piss in, that drive "upscale cars".

I think it has more to do with the "Hey I drive a _(insert said make &model)_ , so I'm better than you , and I own the road, so I can drive like a d-bag." attitude.

Nothing to do with income.

Beyond 'jerks', my fear is the crazed, mad, mind elsewhere mothers in mini-vans or SUV. Please argue with me on this

I can't stand the friggin' absent-minded morons who camp out in the left-most lane pacing the person next to them; usually not quite at, or significantly below the speed limit. This is an epidemic where I live and nothing burns me up more than that!!!

Funny, based on my experience I would expect the opposite to be true.

My tail gaiters tend to be across the spectrum of wankers.....they just tend to clog up the rear mirror of my 911. Woe be to them when I tap my brakes.....

Rich Drivers More Likely to be Jerks?

There seems to be a high concentration of black Mercedes and BMW jerks here in Los Angeles. Worse, they all seem to have handicapped placard that allows them to park for free as long as they please. I wonder whether those placards come with the cars from the dealerships or the dealers have resident physicians prescribing the placards much like doctors in the pot shops here.

I did a job "behind the gates" in a very affluent neighborhood... most of them has old beaters in the driveway of their multi million dollar houses.

I was getting a haircut yesterday and the guy next to me was a big car guy... chatting with the barber about Ferrari's. Maserati's, Lamborghini's, AMG, etc.

He went on to say the very rich don't show off with expensive cars, they want to keep their wealth low key to avoid kidnaping and theft.

Totally unscientific observation on my part... but I usually see a big "L" on the cars driving like jerks in L.A.
