Teenage carjacker thwarted because he didn't know how to use the stick shift in the stolen Porsche

A teenage boy was arrested as he tried to steal a Porsche because he didn't know how to drive using the car's stick shift.
Anthony Reynolds was sentenced on Monday in the attempted carjacking after pleading guilty to the charge of motor vehicle theft in September.


Reynolds was riding in the passenger seat of a stolen BMW in Newark, New Jersey with an unidentified accomplice when they came upon the Porsche.


He got out of the BMW and approached the Porsche wielding a .38 caliber revolver.

Reynolds ordered the owner of the Porsche, whose name has not been released, to get out and Reynolds got in the driver’s seat.
His accomplice drove off in the BMW and left Reynolds in the Porsche, struggling to get away because he did not know how to work a manual transmission.
As the teenager tried to get the car to move, the owner of the Porsche found a nearby police officer, forcing Reynolds to try to flee the scene by foot.
When the case first went to court, Gothamist reported that Reynolds faced a maximum sentence of 15 years behind bars and a fine of up to $250,000 because of the joint charges of theft of a motor vehicle by force, violence and intimidation.
On Monday, federal prosecutors handed down a 55-month jail sentence, meaning that he will serve less than a third of the maximum sentence.

Sadly, I know a ton of people who can't drive a stick......I just don't get it.....I love manual transmissions.......from bikes to farm tractors/my Landy to 911's.........actually shifting and feeling that gear engage is part of the fun...
