So sad. I met him a few times. Did a show with him in the 90's. A giant man. Huge hands. A kind man with a heart of gold.

My first memory was of his woodstock performance...

The right man in the right place at the right time. Huge respect. Tonight I will light a yarzheit candle and listen to his performance at Woodstock. Very sad that he is gone, but at least he went quickly...

Motherless Child/Freedom as performed at Woodstock was a total improv. So many acts were having trouble getting to Woodstock due to the traffic that every time Richie tried to leave the stage they sent him back out to keep playing.

By the time he did Motherless Child he was out of material and just winged it. Brilliant performance.

A true artist. RIP.
