Losing a pet is a sad way to start the week
 

We had to put my cat Riley down this morning. He was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor, and had been going downhill steadily for the past several weeks. This morning we found him disoriented, walking in circles and sort of sideways, and he had given up eating yesterday am. When we were trying to offer him food this morning, he just stood there and lost control of his bladder and bowels. We knew it was time and made an appointment at the vets. I'm sitting here with a huge empty place in my heart, but he no longer had quality of life.

Your post is timely for me as our cat is unwell and I just called the vet to get her checked out. Olena is only 5YO so should be able to recover and continue to bring us the joy that Riley brought to your home and family.

All of us who have loved pets know how you feel. Knowing that doesn't help much, does it?

Sorry to hear of your loss....damn it hurts. But in time, we open our hearts to another.

Thanks everyone, for the kind words and thoughts. The funny thing is that we all set ourselves up for the heartbreak again, by adopting another 4 legged friend when we're ready.

In retrospect, though, Riley lived the proverbial "Life of Riley" here, and we were with him till the end. He's probably terrorizing his old friend Harley (gone 4 years ago) as we speak.
