"I'm used to being from the East Coast...."

If I was the station manager, I'd use the cussing thing to fire a guy who is no good at TV news. It gives me perfect justification.

I'd love to see the demo reel that got him the job.

Shaun @ Tru6 04-23-2013 06:43 PM

Did the guy that gave him the job get fired?

is it possible for you to stay in PARF and not intrude into OT or do you think the forum rules just don't apply to you?

They should be taught that once you're mic'd, no more cursing. Whether it's middle school, HS, college or at the professional level.

I've worked in news...I've seen rookies and veterans. They all say the same thing. You make it a habit not to curse in the studio.

As a side note, Kyra Philips was not at fault. That's the audio's mistake for not muting her mic...If there was anyone I'd yell at, it would be audio.

In all seriousness, I don't recall using the f word at work in about 20 years of professional life. It just isn't going to do anything good for you, it can only hurt. I also do not like people throwing f bombs at work to emphasize their point or their laid-back / cool attitude.

You evidently haven't worked with/around Marines...

Many yrs. ago, I heard information from a survey that said that those who swore were perceived as untrustworthy.

I know this may be hard for someone like you to understand, but you can make reference to politicians or religion without engaging in contentious political ideology or religious philosophy. Yes, you can do that in the OT as long as the thread does not become the focus of contentious ideas.

Rather than making glib and knee jerk reactions to certain references, why not try to be intellectually honest with yourself and recognize a mere reference does not make a post PARF material.

I'm sure you can research these types of references and find they are widely done already here in OT. SmileWavy

This station is probably a feeder market or training ground for young reporters to get experience for larger markets. One of our local stations has had quite a few young and inexperienced reporters go through. Some were totally laughable (Ron Burgundy read whatever is on the prompter types) and a few were really good and are now on Fox and HLN. The point is they didn't stay too long. They either burned out and quit or got jobs in larger markets and were gone in a few months. This guy seems to have burned out quickly. He may have a career yet but this one is a classic like "Boom goes the dynamite."

We've had some big name news reporters either start out here or get their upbringing here in Fresno.

Ju Ju Chang, from ABC News was a schoolmate of mine. She was a few years ahead of me, but from what I can remember, she was extremely smart and very popular and very active in school. She was one of those super-kids that ordinary kids look up to. She went on to college at Stanford University. Her little sister, Jua is really cute. I remember them hauling ass down my street in their Chevy Blazer late for school, haha! Ju Ju is now a fill in anchor on Nightline, and a reporter on 20/ 20 and other shows.

Rudi Bakhtiar grew up in Fresno, and has roots in the local Persian community here. She went to college in So Cal. UCLA I think?

Brandi Hitt went to college at CSUF, here in Fresno. She got a job reporting for a local Fox affiliate, and now lives and works in L.A.

Alicia Acunia was also a local Fox reporter, who is now working on the East Coast, reporting for much larger stations

Yeah, UCLA. She got to Tehrangeles as fast as she could. Her dad is also the nephew of the last prime minister of Iran under the monarchy.

rusnak 04-24-2013 03:21 PM

Pahlavi? I bet her dad has some very interesting stories. Most Persian people here still have the Shah's picture on their wall somewhere.

There's a huuuge Persian population in O.C. Irvine especially.

He really needs a Ron Burgundy 'stache to cover up whatever is on his upper lip. It looks like a rouge chocolate chip or something.:D
