What is up with the draft...
Both Manti and Geno are now second round. Kind of understand Manti with his Harvey like girlfriend, but Geno is gold. WVU had a lot of problems last year with coaching departures (Casteel on Defense) which lead to poor results but Geno shined for most of the year. Seeing him languish last night was hard to watch and embarrassing.
WVU has produced a long line of good pro quality quarterbacks: Oliver Luck, Jeff Hostetler, Marc Bulger, and Pat White, but Geno by far has out shined them all during his time at WVU. (Major Harris was excellent but never got a good shot at the pros.) Seems like he will suffer as second string to Vick in Philly now. |
To be honest, Pat White was a bust. And there are big concerns about Geno's pocket awareness and potential turnovers. Sure, he put up gaudy numbers in college, but that doesn't always translate.
|
I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles passed on him in the second round or traded the pick. They need more help in other areas and too many questions about Smith working in Chip Kelly's offense.
|
Pat White was exceptional at WVU. He will be getting a better second chance with Washington this fall. I think this season will tell if he is made for pro football. Otherwise he always has Baseball to fall back on (Drafted in the 4th round by the Angels in the 2004 MLB draft.)

I disagree with the "better second chance in Washington" comment. RGIII will be back for the first game of the year and White won't see much playing time. They have too much invested in Griffin to piss of the fans by having him sit.
|
Manti was overrated, I thought so all year. He was nowhere near dominant enough to finish 2nd in the Heisman voting, and was a total no-show for the biggest game of his career.
I really thought Geno would go late 1st round, I'm surprised that EJ from FSU went before him. I bet he goes early 2nd. |
