When you allow people to vote...

They will likely do the wrong thing! At today's PCA/PNW region gathering, among the 50-plus 911s, 912s, 914s, water-pumpers, new cars and old, the "People's Choice" award went to a bright lemon-yellow impact-bumper 911 with a small-block Chevy wedged in back. At least the owner had a sense of humor and smiled and said, "Sorry!" when he went in front of the crowd to get his t-shirt.

It must have been very well executed! Good craftsmanship never goes out of style. And I hope you're not saying impact bumper like it's a bad thing! I have a soft spot in my heart for 'em!

My old Aston Martin DB4, which was pretty much concours, lost to a hot pink front hood louvered VW bug at a small car show once.

Baz 04-28-2013 06:20 PM

But (in context) there were so many other categories.....so this wasn't the only award winning vehicle there. Just the "People's Choice".

There must have been 914, 911, 356, etc. winners....thankfully!

my rat rod has won top ten, best in show and many other trophys, 11 so far, in car shows with cars worth 10+ times more.. just their paint jobs cost more than my truck. the look on their faces when my name is called is worth much more to me than any trophy. they stand there polishing their cars the whole show. my truck gets washed only when it rains. the rims are starting to turn green fron mildew

Mrmerlin 04-28-2013 06:53 PM

John how about a picture please of the rat rod

johnco 04-28-2013 06:58 PM

sure, this is my little truck

No, just using the term (impact bumper) to describe the car. He had photos of it at the drag strip with the front wheels way off the ground, rear valance dragging on the ground, during launch. Didn't see an ET but probably low 11s? Maybe quicker?

So tempting to say the wrong (PARFY) thing here. Doh!

BE911, did you take any photos at this event?

Gogar 04-28-2013 08:40 PM

"Democracy" and "Mob Rule" are synonyms!

Yes, maybe 10 or so and I will post them Monday afternoon.

tevake 04-28-2013 08:59 PM

Cool ride John. Is that a hood ornament on the roof? In fact is that a hood as the roof? Nice radiator shell too.

johnco 04-28-2013 11:10 PM

thanks. yes, that is a hood from a early 60's barracuda. the ornament is from a 54 cadillac, and that's a 51 Imperial hood ornament on a m-f radiator shell. except for the frame and drivetrain, most everything on the truck is 50+ yrs old. shell is a 26 ford model tt

oops. the radiator ornament in the picture is a 34 chrysler. I gave it to a friend with a 34 dodge brothers coupe and put the 51 imperial one on.

Cool looking truck John!
How can people vote wrong for People's Choice? Does people choice imply that they are voting for the best restored car or for their favorite regardless of its condition?
BTW that looks like a Farmall H/M radiator shell.

VINMAN 04-29-2013 04:12 AM

John that would get my vote too!

johnco 04-29-2013 06:02 AM

"I'm glad you ditched the fugly wheel centers on those turbines."
I bought those 4 wheels in the 70's for $15. they had been sitting in my shed until I put them on this truck about 4 yrs ago. center caps were long gone by then.
