Product Managers - Chime in
It seems that opportunity may be around the corner again. I've been with my current company for over 3 years. I started in the support team, moved to development and in 2011 I was promoted to support team manager. The last year and a half has been a wild ride. We're at the point now where processes are fixed (and working), products are fixed (and new ones being developed) and the remaining items are "coach-able personality issues" with one member on the team.
It seems that a new opportunity may be available and the more I research it, appears to be a step up but not a team-managing position. Executive management is building a role that services operations, clients and development. From what I gather this is a product manager. Fellow Pelicans who are Product managers out there, tell me what you deal with on a daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly basis and the kinds of challenges you encounter. Do you spend more time with development or operations? Do you have to spend much time being a technical writer? Training internal & external clients? Helping sales? Travel? Gimme the details! I definitely want to know of some personal experiences. Thanks!
