Tip a lawyer?

We had an attorney working on an issue for us. She was very competent, steered us correctly through many turns in the road. She got a us a healthy settlement.

Is it appropriate to tip an attorney?

Sorry if the question is goofy, but we've never dealt with a situation like this. We have developed a good friendly relationship with the attorney, and we are going to be having she and her husband over for a nice dinner. Is that enough thanks, or should be doing something a bit more?

I pay my lawyer $308.00 per hour...........
If he can rid me of my nutty ex-wife I would gladly buy him and his wife a week long cruise!!!! (at that rate I probably already have, six or seven times!)

Never.

One would think the disgusting hourly rate/percentage of settlement MORE than makes up for any tips.

Any Atty I've had in the last eight years that I felt they ought to be tipped would have happened in the first year or two. After that, as I have experienced any tip that could be addressed to them would be on the end of a magnum.

Sure, if you only paid them $2.01 an hour, you know, like a waiter/waitress.

If you just pay her invoices in full, and don't sue her, you'll have her complete gratitude. Trust me on that one.

It's a pretty big deal having them around for dinner.

I've bought my lawyer lunch a few times when it turned out I didn't need to bring my tooth brush.

Well....yes. But I don't see what that has to do with my question.

Geeeezzzz....SORRY. I wasn't talking about handing her a wad of $100 bills and saying 'Nice job babe.' It would be something more creative than that.

I'm sure a nice bottle of wine, a thank you note and mention that you will be recommending them to your friends would be more than appreciated.

Maybe a thank you card with a gift card included. Having them over for dinner is a nice "thank you" too.

That is a very big THANK YOU.
For myself to do that...life would be very good indeed after that. I'd owe my Atty everything.
But let's not dream for too long.

Well if you at some point dated a blond lawyer and you find out she cheated on you
Then the last time you boink her, you can do a Dirty Sanchez, and when you zip up, you throw 5 bucks on the bed and say "that was ok , doll, but next time, try harder for a better tip"

else, no, i wouldn't tip em.

well, I don't know. I wouldn't be upset if my clients tipped me

j/k. I nice bottle of scotch or something like that is a good thing, but the thing a lawyer likes best is simply the positive feedback, and a referal to a friend.

HD, I don't see a problem with a gift/tip for an attorney that you have a long working relationship. The dinner at home with a nice bottle of wine, etc sounds about right.

Smack her on the ass, say "Nice job, babe," and move on.

Unless her rate is $100/hour, you've probably already tipped her 50% just by paying the bill.
