Routine traffic stop turns into shoot out as driver exits car firing AK47 in Ohio
What cops train for but hope never happens. Glad it turned out okay for the cops.
AK-47-Wielding Gunman Fires 37 Times at Shocked Cops During Routine Traffic Stop | Video | TheBlaze.com Warning - Graphic content: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pDqPn7j89pA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Death by cop. He wanted to die and couldn't do it himself. I hope the cops involved don't have significant lasting trauma.
|
I'm not sure he wanted to die... He figured he had he advantage with that AK. Turns out he was wrong.
I didn't quite get it. Did someone shout out "I have a gun" just after the guy went down? |
Maybe I'm hearing what I want to hear, but I hear him saying "Kill me! Kill me!" when he comes back to his car and kneels down. Then one of the cops, who has successfully reloaded by this time, obliges and unloads 17 rounds into Mr. "Kill me." I think the 17th one got him.
Then, some poor old bystander fella says "are you okay? I have a pistol........" or something like that. |
Note the white car entering the intersection just as the shooting starts.....he backed his azz up in a hurry!
Crazy stuff.....I'll never understand humans. |
This guy knew he was in trouble when he got pulled over, he probably would have been spending a lot of time in jail he had so much stuff in his car. He chose his way out.

Wow.
The bad guy got shot in the gut, which is why he kneeled down. I hope the female officer is ok. I feel bad for her. What I don't know is how they returned fire. Must've not been in the car pinned down. The officers are very very very lucky that they didn't exit their cruiser and walk up to the bad guy's car window. |
I'm guessing they were just stepping out of their car and had some minimal protection from their car doors.
|
OK, I just read the article about the incident.
It says that the female office lost a finger in the shootout, and the male officer shot the suspect through the cruiser windshield. Since the windshield did not break on the passenger side, I would think that only the male officer drew his weapon and returned fire. Wow. The shootout lasts only 20 seconds. Both officers were taking cover, most likely with the cruiser doors open. It looks like pistol fire was coming from outside and inside the cruiser. If the bad guy shot from behind his vehicle, he'd have killed the officers. |

The guys in PARF would love seeing the cops outgunned like in this video.
|
Can anyone make out what the male officer says after the female says, "He's hiding something" ? She responds, "Oh my God." I'm thinking this exchange suggest they were both on very high alert.
|
He says "oh s(expletive)t"
And she says "I wonder what's going on?" Then the police car door(s) open and soon after the bad guy emerges with the AK-47. The female officer shouts "Whoa!" |

I wonder if this will cause police to re-think their traffic stop procedures? Here in Calif, the cops want you to stay in your vehicle. They get out and come to your window after running your plate. I always put my hands on the steering wheel with both driver's and passengers windows open. Yes, I get stopped for speeding 5-10 mph over the limit, or to check the tie downs on what I'm hauling, or sometimes to let me know if a light is out, etc etc.

"Middlefield police officers found an arsenal in a duffle bag on the passenger seat of his mother's green Saturn sedan -- knives, guns, nearly 400 bullets and the gunpowder to make more, or build explosives. "He also had a black ski mask, black leather gloves. He had a number of books and pamphlets in his trunk, instructional videos on gun fighting and some other things," said Flaiz. The makeshift library of books and videos read like a sickening instruction manual: advanced rifle techniques, the big book of homemade weapons, "Be your own undertaker" and "Acquiring new ID." |
Hardly what I'd call a "routine traffic stop". just sayin'...
