Iq

I am willing to bet the demographics of the hood in Cleveland where the "House of Horrors" happened, the IQ is way below the national average.

I wonder about that statement, and I'm not sure that I buy that it's as different as you might think. Maybe my understanding/idea of what IQ means is wrong.

I believe that there are folks of all ranges of IQ in all walks of life. I'd bet that you can go into the average inner city hood and find folks with very low levels of education that have a high IQ (to me IQ is a natural ability to think, reason, learn). What you may find in certain areas is very different level of education which, to me, is not necessarily linked to IQ.

I suppose it is possible that due to environment (worse nutrition, nurturing, etc...) that there may be a shift, but I wouldn't expect the shift to be that significant.

I think I read that it was in a predominantly Puerto Rican neighborhood. I can't say for sure, but based on a couple of guys that I work with that are from Ohio and some of the information that I've read, I don't think it was an affluent neighborhood. I suspect that he was hinting at it being a poor, primarily minority neighborhood. Of course, that could just mean that it's full of hard working, down to earth folks that don't make a lot of money.

He can't be that sharp if he thought it was a good idea to commit domestic abuse....several times. You don't need any special advantages to know it's not a good thing to smack women around.

But good on him for calling the police and getting them to come out there.

Right, because smart people don't commit domestic abuse.

But if we were talking about some banjo playing rednecks in the Ozarks, that's be a whole different story because for some reason it's still PC to bash them........

Same as gingers. Perfectly OK to ridicule a group based on their skin color and hair, as long as their skin color isn't brown or black and their hair is red.

Then there's cracker. That's OK. Nothing wrong with it.
The N word on the other hand is O'fensive.

Being PC sure is complicated.

I certainly don't condone that but then again no one is perfect. Look at Tiger and Bill Clinton.

< blah, blah, blah snipped for brevity>
Hmm, well, maybe for some folks, but not for me. I've thought about this before, and the trigger is usually country/redneck folks here in TX or in FL or GA.

I don't think skin color has anything to do with IQ, just like education and socio-economic status.

Don't confuse me with someone that is PC.

I'm sure that there are lots of folks that rely on the government, and I suspect that behavior is probably more prevalent in certain areas/neighborhoods (and probably includes people of all colors even though the neighborhoods are probably primarily segregated because of the natural tendency to live around others that are similar).

I can also tell you that I have interacted with plenty of Hispanics and minorities here in Houston that most folks would assume were doing the same thing. In my experience, the folks that I've met have usually had 2 and 3 jobs. THe guys that worked in the kitchens of the bars that I used to work in usually had 2-3 gigs and worked 70-100 hrs / week. The guy that is the janitor where I work now, works here, and has a business doing lawns. I suspect he works pretty hard.

Being PC is not at all complicated. Red heads are known crazies - and there is a LOT of clinical experience to back that up.

banjo playing rednecks in the Ozarks are a bit more mobile than banjo playing rednecks in the Appalachians but let's face it, they are all $%^&^*()((%^!#$%@^%&@

Cracker is just another name for the one who can't play the banjo.

Now, let's discuss that worst of all ethnic groups, the Irish.

A recent TV special on IQ test and intelligence suggest that the gap between black and whites widens with age.

The expert claimed that negative reinforcement at an early age was responsible.

That the heads of black households criticized their children more readily and this harmed long term learning abilities and development.

This is true.

Quote:

I think this is almost certainly true as well. Example I recall was a high-school janitor that tested higher than a 5 star general.

Because a lot of folks with very specialist or within very narrow fields often don't operate well outside those - even though they're not stupid.

And there's also a wide range of skills/abilities that IQ tests don't even attempt to measure.

Quote:
(to me IQ is a natural ability to think, reason, learn).
Most language-based IQ tests are intended to measure spacial awareness, mathematical ability (including reasoning, use of logic), language skills and memory, with roughly equal scores assigned to each, IIRC.

An equivalent "culture-free" (symbols-based) test is usually administered at the same time that removes the language portion/bias - for non-native English speakers, for example.

The highest score from either test is then used. For best results, the scale (difficulty) of the selected test should be somewhere near the ballpark of the expected final result - e.g. don't test Mensa candidates (top 1 percentile of the population) with a test intended for sub- or average candidates. Or vice-versa.

Opinion is divided as to whether they actually measure anything tangible anyway. There's no guarantee that any individual with a high IQ is going to be successful in either work or school - although they often are.
