boat trailer lights

When I took my 13 ' Whaler to the marine mechanic a few weeks ago I noticed the right side lights were not working. Got the rig back so I decided to install new LED lights. Everything is new from connector to wires to the lights. Lights are grounded to the chassis at the lights and I ran extra wires to both lights and the four pin connector. Got it all buttoned up and left side works fine right side no brake lights or blinkers. This was hooked up to my wifes RAV4 with a factory installed hitch/wire loom. So I tested the connector on the RAV4 with a meter and I can see it pulsing with left blinker on but nothing with the right side . So I guess I'll have to trace the wires and see how the dealer installed the wiring. So much for an easy install. And I checked the right side LED's with a 9 volt battery and they all seemed to work fine.

Check the fuses on the Rav first.

Good advice - went through this with my Silverado - you should have some fuses for the trailer lights in your fuse box. Check your manual and/or the underside of the fuse box lid for a schematic.

If it was a fuse would the lights on the RAV work ? Because the lights do work on the RAV .

A lot of vehicles have separate fuses for trailers. That way a trailer issue won't much up the vehicle

If you have a pulse at the blinker, then the light fixture isn't grounded?
I had to run seperate grounds after I swapped out the flimsy OEM housings.

After work today I checked all the fuses in the engine bay all good. Then checked all inline fuses in the rear " cubby " compartments in front of the rear lights all good. I was really hoping something simple guess I'll have to dig in further.

Bad splitter on the Rav is the next place I would check.

If the RAV4 has separate brake lights and turn signal bulbs, you will have a converter installed. They are usually mounted behind a tail light. Follow the 4-wire harness away from the plug to find it.

As a last resort you could visit your local U-Haul store. They have staff who are trained to resolve trailer light issues.

See my cough thread about knowing your limitations.
