Hey guys, it is getting to be that time of year! Thought I would start the thread prior to the holidays so that everyone would get a chance to participate.
I would like you guys to use this thread to discuss what charity you would like to donate to this year and which Pelican who is no longer with us that you guys would like to memorialize. I will be making a small run of knives and the best one of the run will be chosen to be given away in the giveaway. This will probably be the last set of knives that I ever make. Some of you that I have contacted outside of Pelican are aware that after last year's run of knives that I lost feeling in three of my fingers in my left hand. The feeling has not returned and I don't know if I have carpal tunnel or a pinched nerve. None the less, I will turn out this run of knives for this years giveaway. I am sort of taking a risk making these because I can't feel what is going on with my left hand on the grinder... Next year, I will be willing to pitch in (as I hope some of you will) to purchase a good quality knife for the giveaway. I want you guys to know that I wish I could make each of you a knife. My goal was to make a few extra each year till I got around to everyone lol... Sadly, this will probably not happen... The following Pelicans will be receiving knives this year (Thanks for being responsible hunters and/or keeping me entertained on the BBS this year). LOWYDER993S VASH ODDJOBUNO JOHNCO TARGA911S CRAIGSTER59 These knives will look just like the giveaway knife, but I will not be making sheaths for your knives, only for the giveaway knife. Sorry for this, it is just too labor intensive. I will ask that you PM me your addresses and I will hope to get the knives out before Christmas. Depending on life, I may not get them out till after New Years, will have to see how quick the process goes... I am asking someone to please step up this year and collect the funds, hold the drawing and disperse the funds to the chosen charity... It is just too much on me to do everything... I will report progress as I get work done... Once again, I would like you guys to use this thread to discuss what charity you would like to donate to this year and which Pelican who is no longer with us that you guys would like to memorialize. Here is a picture of this year's knife design... it's a BIG one!! ![]() ![]()

![]() Hey guys, can't be Lisa_Spyder, she was our first Pelican Memorialized... I will throw in a couple names... EARLYSMAN and DRAGO... If you can think of anyone else, throw their names in... we can do a poll later and do a proper vote this year. We can do the same for the charity...

Well, got half of the knives cut out the blank steel today and then ran out of cutting wheels ooofmph! Will have to wait till the hardware store opens tomorrow to get some more. Up until this point, I had really never made myself a knife, so I figured that was the whole reason for making knives anyway so this year I will be making myself my first knife... Did a little grinding on it today...

+1 - I truly miss her.
Maybe a donation to here? http://www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au/ That was the place her husband, Mike had suggested after she died. I can't believe it's been a year. I opened the thread about her death and it still makes me cry. angela

Ok - I had forgotten that Lisa was the first (sorry).
So - how about Warren Hall (EarlySMan) with the charity - one for Cystic fibrosis? I still read his posts for information. angela

Thanks FO! It really blows me away to receive one of your custom knives! I'm going to have to "pay it forward" and dig up some nice stuff to give away to some fellow Pelicans. Working in props on films I always have something cool and different laying around.
As far as Pelicans no longer with us, I think early S man, Drago or Howard Agency would all be great choices. As far as charities, anyone you guys come up with I would be glad to donate. One that is close to me (as an outdoorsman) is Project healing waters. Helping Veterans deal with stress, trauma and loss through fly fishing. Let me know what I can do. ![]()

You feel like being this years Master of Ceremonies? This would consist of collecting all donations, doing the drawing and making sure that the selected charity receives the donation in the Pelican's name that is chosen? If so, I will conduct the polls to determine which nominee is selected and which charity gets chosen this year.

Just a quick update, all of the knives have been cut out of the blank steel and profiled. I have two of the knives already rough ground and have five more to do. I literally set my grinder on fire day before yesterday... I built my own grinder and was using heavy plastic/poly caster wheels on my flat platen... Guess I hadn't greased the needle bearings in a while and next thing I knew smoke and flames everywhere.. No biggie, stopped by TSC and picked up some steel caster wheels... They seem to be working awesome so far...
While I am thinking about it, I just want to put out there that we will probably do everything like we did last year. Ask for a $5. donation for each time you would like your name to be thrown into the drawing. I encourage everyone to participate and to make donations in other Pelicans names as well. I think that since we are off to an early start this year, that we should be able to exceed last years donation amount! Quote:
