My wife's computer is opening with this screen coming up:

I can't figure out 1) why and 2) how to make it stop doing it.
It's Win 7 Home Premium which I really am not all that familiar with since my machine runs on Vista 64 :eek:.
I can't figure out what the file 'Mary' is either (and neither can she).
Any help to make it 'go away' would be appreciated.

Is there something in one of her drive bays or USB ports?

Looks like somehow the file Mary was set to open at startup but the PC does not know what app to use.

Find the "Mary" file and remove from startup items and delete it.

Run virus scan.

No, there isn't anything in the USB ports or drive bays.
I'll search for the file and see if I can find it.

Malwarebytes is a good one to scan with if your regular one has missed something.

Ccleaner can tell you what has been selected to start when you boot.

1) Could be an indicator of a virus or malware. Make sure the machine is clean.
2) Check to see what is opening at startup using MSCONFIG:
Start
Run
type: msconfig
hit enter
go to the startup tab and see what is in there that looks suspicious

Is your wife's name Mary, if so then the user profile might be corrupted? If msconfig does not find anything, use regedit and do a search for 'Mary" and then delete as necessary. I am guessing it is some sort of malware. If nothing is found that way, set msconfig to allow you to walk through every startup item as the computer starts up to see what might be causing this.

OK, I found out what was causing it. By going into cCleaner and looking at the startup menu items, I one by one disabled ones I wasn't sure of. Did a reboot each time. Seems the AVG secure tracking exe was the one causing the screen to appear.

I have one that is puzzling. Spoofed Microsoft Essentials warning screen comes up, warning of a virus. Tries to redirect you to a pay site.

The obvious part is the "PCSPEED" web address. I've done MSE full scans, Malware scan and a Google search for BTDT posts.

Anyone got an idea?

I have found that getting Momz (Shut up, Sid)off the MSN.com site as a home page and few other tweaks lessens the attacks, home page hijacks and other issues but this screen keeps popping up.
