New model & affect on resale values?
When a new model, say like the 991, comes out how much of an impact does it have on the current values of the 997? Does the resale of a 997 take a hit right away, it takes a while or no real impact at all?
In other words, if you knew the next model of a car will be coming out does it make sense to wait a year before buying the older model? |
I'd say there are a lot of variables to consider, such as the price point, volume being sold, drastic aesthetic changes, etc.
Look at 993 to 996, then the 996 to the 997. Or 987 Cayman to 981 Cayman (I'm going to guess that 987 Caymans will drop significantly). |
Depends if the buying public determines the new model to be an improvement, or a case of the maker losing its way. See 993 vs. 996 values.

I don't think most people who buy a 997/991 worry too much about "roots." IMHO, when a new model is announced, the current year model is immediately less desirable. That's partially why carmakers don't release all sorts of juicy info until the new car is nearly in showrooms. Otherwise people would just wait to buy the new one. The last of a model is the best value, but only after depreciation has set in and it gets lumped in with all that model's years.

I guess it's a bit like buying a new computer. Sometime you just have to jump on and buy and before long there is something better for the same price. But you can't just wait forever.
