What the world eats in a week

Found this on a photography site but it really struck me how different Americans eat compared to the rest of the world.

What A Week Of Groceries Looks Like Around The World | Fstoppers

Mexico: They drink that many liters of soda in a week?!?

The girl in the Germany photo doesn't look happy to be in the picture.

Those Aussies sure eat a lot of meat. Looks like hamburger or some sort of ground meat and a whole lot of it too. Can miss all the German beer, I loved living in Germany.

The Kuwait family has most rectilinear arrangement of groceries...

Almost all the pics make me hungry except the US, Aussies & GB...

URY914 05-13-2013 11:00 AM

Makes me hungry to look at that.

The USA pic looks nothing like our week.

i think i have this book. it is a book right?

Italy's, India's and Mongolia's groceries look the most appealing to me. In France they eat cats, I've always thought so. All the fish for the Japanese week, yum! Mali and Chad are kind of sad, though perhaps that's a prosperous, plentiful week of food in their terms.

I'm with Brent - our week of groceries looks totally different. Not much packaged stuff, almost no soda. More like Italy's, but very little bread for us.

Be funny to see the pics for American "fad" diet groceries for a week... I have a friend doing the Paleo diet and another on Adkins. 20 lbs of red meat, bacon and cheese!

That was the first thing I noticed. They win.

There aren't too many families of four in China with kids that age.

Our week looks like about half the stuff in the Canadian family's photo. The thing we drink most is water and from a Brita filter, so very few bottles or cans.

RWebb 05-13-2013 01:35 PM

probably a Party Official and his family

We eat alot of pork, fish, and chicken....very little red meat, and maybe only a 6 pack of soda, a 6 of beer, and a 6 of wine coolers for the wife, everything else is milk or water. coupla pizzas and alot of pasta, rice and potatoes to go with the meat.

Chad is pretty sad and makes you really think how good we have it in the rich nations.

I bought a 2 litre bottle of Coke two years ago for some dinner company's kids. Otherwise, soda has never been in this house. My dental hygienist tells me every time that she can tell I don't drink soda.

Germans live for carbonated bottled water. Cases of it are a staple in every household there.

It is pretty depressing how much packaged and ready to eat garbage is found in the "west". Even in Germany they eat frozen pizzas now. And that's with awesome Italian Pizzerias at every corner. :(

To me the Italian table looked pretty good. And if you need to lose some weight, go to the Chad for a few weeks!

Thanks for sharing - this was a lot of fun. I would like to take a picture like that for my family. It is just tough though, because we shop 2-3 times a week.

Well, that's just cats. And they're French. So it's ok, a certain level of weirdness is tolerated.

More disturbing is that they eat dogs (MAN'S BEST FRIEND!) in Poland.

Fido can try to hide, but come Sunday, when the other food is all gone . . .

search the article for pork

I was stunned to see how many eggs and how much meat the Aussies eat, if that pic is anywhere near reality.

And the Germans are alchies!!!

motion 05-13-2013 03:42 PM

I wish the photos were larger!

And, there's no way Americans eat that much crap. Impossible...

Turkey looks the best.
