Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock Plus

I had Tinyeye, just added noscript & adblock (thanks wb)

What others do you use?

masraum 05-18-2013 09:41 AM

Noscript and adblock plus.

Also
IE Tab 2 (or IE Tab +, can't remember for sure, both are similar)
Image Zoom (allows you to resize, up or down, images on a page including rotating)
Mobile Barcoder (turn text or links into a QR code for easy scanning into a smart phone)
Tab Kit or Tree Style Tab (allows me to move the tabs so they run down the side of the browser instead of across the top. This is a big one since most monitors are widescreen/landscape, but most web pages are tall/portrait.
At work, we use a proxy, but we have some other proxies that we have to use for accessing other devices in the network, so I use Foxy Proxy for that, but that's a somewhat unusual and specialized thing.

flashblock and downloadhelper.

Ad blocking is done either on my firewall (at home) or my hosts file (at work)

Don't forget Ghostery. Blocks all known 'trackers' like alexa, google analytics, datium, etc.

I've only got a middle-grade D-Link router with wifi. Have any tips you can Share with getting that level of filtering enabled for us mere users?

ID10T, what firewall are you using

Something Linux based or commercial?

Firefox with MS Security Essentials.

Only using the NoScript extension, but the computer still randomly hangs up to half an hour with a variety of errors (mostly "gre" or "chrome"). Upgraded and searched for a fix but no joy. Everyone says start in safe mode and see if that fixes it.

A few examples:
Script: resource://gre/modules/XPCOMUtils.jsm:325
Script: http ://s.ytimg.com/yt/jsbin/www-core-vflnHl_P9.js:51
Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:370
Script: chrome://bprivacy/content/bprivacy.js:684 10.14
Script: chrome://global/content/bindings/textbox.xml:55
Script: chrome://mozapps/content/downloads/downloads.js:1155

Linux based with iptables. Also runs as a caching DNS server.

I've thought about casually offering a Rasberry Pi based solution for sale.... but between work, teaching, and trying to have a family life I really couldn't dedicate myself to proper development of it, not that it would need much. Hard part would be getting consistent hardware, esp the wireless side - not all wireless adapters can be put in access point mode....
