Adopted a new cat...

from the local no-kill shelter today, since we had an empty space in the roster. Rocky is a pretty cool cat, 11 months old, neutered, all shots up to date, and already microchipped. We're just going through the introductions phase right now. Usual hissing at first, but no fur flying, and his immediate superior, Julius (4 yr old male), is already starting to play with him. Shadow, (13 yr old Queen Biotch), is in quite the snit, and wants nothing to do with him.

He's a cutie

Good on you. Still got my 2 shelter cats from 14 years ago. They're having a good life.

In my experience they "know" they've been rescued -- on at least some level.

+1

Congrats on your new kiddle, Dave!

My two guys, Banjo and Tucker, are going on 8 years old now. They are good company when I'm outside working on the yard or my garage projects.

Thanks for having a good heart and for sharing - he's very cool! ;)

I approve of this message. I love tabbies - they are whack. Female cats can be a pita, especially as they get older. Good thing you got a male. If you'd gotten a female I bet fur would be flying. IME you can have multiple male cats in the house but there can only be one queen, lest everyone suffer the consequences.

dafischer's cat looks related to mine. I miss my Belinda. This was my guardian 15LB cat. She used to come over when I called her name like a dog- I tried to teach her how to drive...

My 2 adopted standard poodles got to her one day. I never quite got over it...

Thanks for all the good thoughts, guys. It's always a good feeling giving a real life to a shelter cat, and yes, I believe that they "know" that they've been granted a new chance.

Nostatic...we know all too well about the female pita thing. We've always had males, but the female got into the rotation by a fluke, not our choice, but hey, she was rescued as well. No mo females for us. Tabbies are our favorite, we usually have one orange and one grey. And a black one (in this case the QB) for contrast.

Tonight's the major test. The new kid is in with the general population, and has whole house priveleges. I won't be surprised if we wake up to a major schidt fit sometime overnight.

Both mine are pound rescues (kill shelters). Milo is about 15 I think, tuxedo, like to vomit but otherwise is a good cat. Twiggy is about 6 or 7, tabby, and she is a handful. She behaves like a dog: comes when I call and talks to me, growls when people come up to the front door - very affectionate and protective cat. She is into headbutting and loves me. In fact she is jealous of the wife (and it runs both ways). I'll be sitting on the couch and the cat will be somewhere else in the house. If my wife comes and sits next to me Twiggy will be on my lap within about a minute, either on my chest or in-between us. Very funny. She's my favorite cat ever.

Well, the first night went off without a hitch. No tufts of fur this am, no blood or injuries, no 3am screaming fits. Only drama was this am at feeding time, when Rocky went up to check out the QB while she was eating. Much growling and hissing on her part along with a raised paw, which scared the crap out of Rocky. The fat tail that he got was hilarious, but unfortunately the camera wasn't handy.

I think that this is going to work out just fine.

Good for you and good luck with the introductions. My two are brother and sister, taken in at 6 months old after being born and living outside in a feral colony. I should say semi feral as my ex father in law takes care of the cats who all live on his deck. My son captured these two. They are very social, great with each other and love my old labrador. Tilly loves to have her belly rubbed and rolls over like a dog to initiate it.
