Or is this just a publicity stunt for an aging gangsta rapper?

Addendum: I had read awhile back in the LA Times that Snoop was doing some modified reggae shtick nowadays.

I agree he has figured something out as far as a formula to make money using image and music. He has been very successful at using his connections to real world violence etc. to make tens of millions of dollars.

My hope is that he is on the forefront of a new trend in popular music to get away from gangsta rap as the primary food for youth culture etc. Its become tiring to see the minivan with a bunch of suburban kids trying to look tough as they blast some hard core gangsta rap. Once upon a time it was an oddity to behold and laugh at, now it is the norm. I don't hear any other kind of music coming out the windows of the gang bangers cars in Oakland for example. Violence and gangsta rap go hand in hand.

The cultural impact gangsta rap has had on the world has been damaging in many ways. Music is a powerful conduit for ideas, attitudes, lifestyle, etc. and I hope a shift is occurring when it seems society could use it the most.

I posted the videos because I am deeply concerned and interested to know where our crumbling society is headed and it seemed like an interesting ripple in the genre's fabric. I thought some of you might find it to be an interesting thing from a cultural point of view. I'm not a fan but being a music junkie had stumbled across the news and found it intriguing although it appears it's business as usual without the mention of guns or pro violence in the lyrics. The video looks like a rap video for the most part though with the look how rich I am, I have a lot of crap, and here are lots of hot chicks not wearing much for you to look at. So maybe not such a big break from Snoop's regular schtick.

Not that there is anything wrong with hot chicks.
