Spoon question about Mosin.
Anyone have a Mosin M44 or the Chinese Type 53? How do you like it? I have fired the rifle and liked it, but I'd rather have the shorter version.
If you have one, where'd ya get it? How's the bore? How much? Numbers match? Anyone know a good source in SoCal for one? I can find them online, but its a crap shoot on the condition. TIA |
Nice guns

rjp Cheap hot rod gun. MY favorite type. |
ive got several of them. invest in a good butt stock pad, or a shoulder pad while firing it. you will get bruised.

Last year I picked up a very nice 1948 Russian Izhevsk "Izzy" M44. The stock has all the appropriate stamps, not counter bored, all numbers matching. I love the darn thing especially when shooting heavy ball 54R :) Kicks hard but so rewarding. I did a simple shrink tube mod to the front sight to adjust for 100 yard shooting (the limit of my older eyes) and it's been a joy.
http://i1258.photobucket.com/albums/...ps45565d4f.jpg I got mine through a private party transfer that I located on Calguns Marketplace. I paid the handsome sum of $300 with a large box of 54R. I don't think a good M44 is ever going to sell for $100 range in our lifetime again. So folks might gasp that I dropped that sort of cash on Mosin but frankly the rifle is sweet and I got what I was looking for. No regrets. PM me if you have more specific questions. |
Awesome!

I've got a Chinese version. Yes it kicks like a mule but so what, it's a gun. I've refinished the stock.
David is drilling & tapping a 91/30 action for me to make into a sniper rifle. |
Thanks for the responses, but still need some guidance on the following:

id10t, your post made me laugh. thanks!
i bet feinstein knows where they ALL are, joe.... JK! i see them all the time at cabela's and at the local gun store here, gallensons. if you have a cabela's or a scheels, i bet they have some to look over and you can assess the condition yourself. as for me, i've handled a few at the above stores and i found that the condition of everything (bore, stock, trigger assembly, bolt) varies significantly, even within the same shipment. you are just going to have to get your paws on a few and look them over very closely. d. |
apparently, cabela's has them for $150....

That is a standard Mosin. The M44 is a bit tougher to secure.
