I went through the seller's previous auctions (a lot of gun related items). He has sporadic spelling and minor grammatical errors in several of his old auctions.

As with any ebay sale, **get an inspection** but that said, I think this is probably the real thing and that somebody got a smoking deal.

Not listed in eBay "completed sales" page. Feedback shows seller is a dealer in small, collectable items with no history of cars. Pictures do not appear to be from Wisconsin. None of the above is conclusive and is open to interpretation but from all appearances, I'd say the listing was fake, with a hacked seller ID and a hacked set of pictures and description.

You may get your chance. I bet that comes back on the market. Although it may be on German eBay.

If it was real, then this^^, but offered at a stratospheric price.

My screen says only 9 people viewed the page. Could the ad have been cancelled immediately?

The counter stops when the auction ends. If it was a 'buy it now' and someone pulled the trigger that would have stopped the auction.

The 'buy it now' disappears from the screen if you choose that purchase option.

I don't know this guy from Adam, but this could well be the real thing. Have to wait and see if the transaction completes and what the seller's feedback, etc., look like before I would call it a fake.

If this is the real deal, it might be advantageous (if you are really interested) to contact the seller regarding a second chance offer or a re-list with a buy-it-now. If the first falls through, the seller could offer it to you. Obviously be careful - this is a high dollar item, but smoking deals do occur on evil-bay.

Maybe we can get some clarification.

McLovin, since you check regularly for longhoods, when did you first see the ad? Did you see it back on the 25th of May and just post today? Was there a Buy it Now price?

Tangerine911S, where did you find the information about 9 views as I can't seem to locate it from the link?

It will be interesting if this sale eventually appears in the seller's feedback record. It certainly should if it was all above board.

Checking the history of the seller, as several of us did, only provides a suspicion--not only that the seller could be scamming, but that someone hacked a legitimate seller with a good history and used the ID to perpetuate a scam. I leaned toward the latter interpretation.

Yes, these are all good points and would make me all that more convinced it was fake. The classic scam involves an obviously too low a price in a Buy-it-Now format to initiate the scam--I see this almost daily when I check eBay for another particular vehicle. Bottom line, we may never know about this car. It really is a too good to be true deal, and because of that, the skeptic in me says, "fake." Of course, smokin' deals do happen so hope springs eternal, and that is what allows scammers to survive.

Ahh...who says that it sold for $32k? Does no one here know how eBay works? This is about the hundredth weird thread where a bunch of old guys whine about eBay, then you realise that nobody actually understands it.

I'll try to help.

When an item sells outside of the eBay listing during the auction, (whether the seller found it on eBay or not), and the item has bids on it, the seller has to cancel all bids before ending the listing. That is what happened here. Did no one notice that it shows zero bids? Ebay is a fantastic marketing and advertising source, in fact it now costs nothing to do what this guy did, which was to hit every person in the world looking for an early 911 plus get spammed on Porsche forums like this, all within hours.

I don't follow the day-to-day early 911 market, (because I've completely lost interest in the cars), but I'd guess that this is about a $130k car in today's market. So if you think that someone bought it for $32k, you've been duped. And no one was even trying to dupe you.

It didn't sell "outside of eBay," and there were no cancelled bids.

The auction ended with a "Buy it Now" purchase, within an hour of the ad going up.

That's why there are no bids. You know how eBay "Buy it Now" works, don't you?

(That being said, IMO it was a scam, using a hacked account.)

I think someone on the early S registry confirmed it was a hacked account,

or they bought it themselves and are about to flip it for a 100K profit.

I thought I did, but apparently they have changed it. Up until very recently, the completed auction would say, "listing ended with 'Buy it Now'" at the top. They must have done away with that for some reason(?)

At any rate, when something does sell outside of eBay, and there are bids on it, all bids will be canceled and it will show something like $200, (or what ever the opening bid was), and zero bids. My bad on that, but if you think that this car sold for $32k and you "missed out" on it, you're a chump.

FWIW I bought my 345C on eBay with Buy It Now.

Everything was legit and I got a very good deal, IMHO.

The auction was started in the wee hours of the morning. I was up early that morning checking email and I saw an email from one of the 356 registry guys who always checks listings and posts alerts. It got my attention and I went to the auction. No bids yet and the BIN price was only $4K over the starting bid - and if you know anything about 356 auctions - $4K is nothing at all to surpass once an auction starts. This for a complete no rust car with a bunch of recently rebuilt components plus engine ready to drive away located in south Florida (easy to transport - saves time and $). So I went for it.

Here's the kicker......found out later it had a sunroof! That was not mentioned in the auction description. Nor that the engine was a fresh rebuild. I hit the jackpot!

Hey it happens....
