what for, as an investment? Warren Buffet (among others) doesn't consider gold an investment.

I am with you. 16,500. I mean really, 16 thousand. When it starts going the other way- where does it stop. Gold, I don't know. I have bought some silver lately and some silver mining company stocks. One actually pays a good dividend.
When stocks are tanking- what do bonds do?
I just hate buying stocks when they are sitting on 52 week highs. But most decent stocks are there or almost there.
I have bought some GE, Southern Co. and Aflac lately. Not exactly pushing the risk envelope.

Gold Bulls Retrench as Price Drops Most in 32 Years
By Debarati Roy
2013-12-31

Hedge funds got less bullish on gold for the seventh time in eight weeks as the U.S. economy strengthens and inflation fails to accelerate, driving prices to the biggest annual drop in more than three decades.

Investors pulled $38.6 billion from gold funds this year, the most in data going back through 2000, according to EPFR Global, a research company.

gold is way off its highs that we saw a couple years ago. with few signs of an economic crash on the horizon, I just do not see gold making a run anytime soon.

I bought a little this year. I'm in around $1280 so I'm down, but its a very tiny amount of my investments. Less than 1% of my investable assets. I'm going to buy a little every month for a while and just average in. I think I'll go up to 2% in the next year and then just let it sit.

I like that I can pay cash and there is no record if I purchase less than $10,000 at a time, same in selling. But I do have records if I need to show a loss. It will most likely always be worth something, I still have a tech stock from 2000 that isn't.

Like everyone my stock investments are way up, I'm sitting on more cash than usual and having trouble figuring out where to put it. Not a bad problem to have, but not very efficient.

Same boat. And I have two bonds maturing in the next 3 months (both in the 6% interest range) and no idea where to put it at the moment. Not pulling any more out of the stock market but definitely not putting any more in it either. The FED has markets so screwed up one doesn't know whether to s**t or go blind these days..

Oh, and how far is your restaurant from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre?
Me and the boys are coming for the pizza(and other food and cocktails, well a lot of cocktails)
Your pics of chow at your place requires a road trip!

The best investment strategy is to ask tabs for advice.

Then do the exact opposite.
