One of my instructors has one and I can't believe the weight he puts in it, it is getting beat looking but still works and runs great, he loves it. I don't think I could pay attention to someone that drives a 944 and thinks these trucks look bad.
I thought they were pretty expensive but I do know people that went to Texas to buy used trucks, they say they are cheaper there.

Go re read my post... I never said it was ugly... Just pretty useless. ;)

I think we are talking past each other here. My suggestion was to get an extended cab truck instead of an Avalanche because the extended cab will do everything you need and for less money than an Avalanche. An extended cab will still haul 4-5 adults if needed, has a bigger bed, and is less money.

Zeke 05-23-2013 07:15 PM

Matt, if there were some ext cabs to look at and choose from in a decent price range, I'd be on it. Just for grins and giggles, I registered with CarMax. I upped my budget to 16K and 2 trucks appeared in the system within 100 miles. I'm supposed to be getting updates. The OC lot is supposed to have sold 1000 units a month for awhile. That means they need to buy everything they can and they do. The thing is they mark them up tremendously. A truck that retails for 11k is 16 with them.

Well, the point at last — I haven't seen one truck in my email yet. Now if I had 30K....

Back to the Avalanche, I can look at 5 within 10 miles any day. My wife hates the idea. She can't believe I'm even talking about it. Of course, she'd be OK with a Suburban.

I'm not.

What is your shopping criteria? You can buy a damn nice crew cab for $16k, and an even nicer extended cab. And I second Sid, stop shopping at Carmax.

porsche4life 05-23-2013 07:34 PM

Check out that last truck I posted Matt.... I'd try to be in it around 7k and be one happy SOB for a long time.

Zeke 05-23-2013 08:19 PM

That blue truck is long gone. The ad was dated 5-11.

You guys are funny. I'm not planning to buy a truck at CarMax. My CA auto sales license is in my drawer right here next to me. It's long expired, but I do know just a bit about the game.

porsche4life 05-23-2013 08:30 PM

Have you called and checked? Don't assume its gone just because the ad has been up...

I'm sorry, you claim to know the game, but in less than 5 minutes I find plenty of listings, its just a matter of watching out and jumping on one quick...

onewhippedpuppy 05-23-2013 08:37 PM

Totally confused about what you are tying to accomplish here Milt. You complain about how expensive trucks are but speak of wanting an Avalanche, which tend to be more expensive than normal trucks. You get suggestions that you can actually find trucks that will fit your needs for significantly less money, but you claim that you can't find any and register with Carmax. After Sid posts a few suggestions (and I bet we could find many more), suddenly you are a car dealer? Your posts are full of contradictions, and quite frankly you're being an arrogant ass to two guys that are just trying to be helpful. If you are so good at "the game" then you could find exactly what you are looking for within your metro area, because I bet I can.

Do you just need affirmation that the Avalanche doesn't suck?

Zeke 05-23-2013 10:00 PM

I guess you need to sit here rather than there. I know my market. Been looking off and on for a year. I started a thread about an Avalanche to get a read from the Pelicans. Never been close enough to one to know if it has a frame or if the rear seat folds.

You 2 are 2 guys I would not get along with under any circumstances. I wouldn't mind if both of you dropped out of the discussion. Some how I've made it this far in life without your help. I'll bet I get a little further down the road without your help as well.

Do me a favor....

Zeke 05-23-2013 10:06 PM

Oh, forgot. Why do you want me to buy a truck (blue one) with a salvage title? My insurance (which I'n not changing) won't insure a ST for collision, theft or comprehensive. Did you wonder why it was priced 3-4000 low?

This ain't BF Kansas.

rusnak 05-23-2013 10:12 PM

Grandma wants an Avalanche, made up his mind, and wants to complain to high heaven about it while Pelican provides an audience.

Sales license? OOO BOY that means everything... I know of several guys who own dealerships that doan know jack diddly schit about buying used cars. Not impressed by a license, and my dad used to hold a dealers license, and several of his close friends do. I also know guys like my dad and Matt that buy vehicles all the time and flip them for a profit. My dad is on his 5th(?) truck in the last two years, and the only one he "lost" money on was the one he kept for 13 yrs and put 240k on. That truck owed him nothing.

Yes and I gave you my honest opinion that for the money you'd be better off buying a truck, which you said wasn't doable. Hence my posting of trucks to show you.

And yes we may not "know" your market, hence our suggestion that you buy a truck this way and take it out there. However a cursory glance at craigslist shows that there are a good number of trucks out there in your budget range.

Now... You don't like us... I don't really care and I'm not sure Matt does either. That's fine, more beer for us right Matt! SmileWavy

I get it Milt, you came here wanting vindication that you were right, and we proved you wrong. I'm wrong occasionally too, but some sometimes a little education is good for us all.

That ain't an us problem, or a market problem, thats a YOU problem. I'd go look and verify that its a clean truck, put state minimum coverage on it and drive it till the damn wheels fell off. Wash, rinse, repeat. Thats the beauty of a fairly cheap truck...

Oh and I'm not in KS, but I know Matt and I both have done business in and purchased vehicles in major cities. Just because we choose not to live in SmellLA doesn't mean we are uneducated hicks.

Zeke 05-23-2013 10:59 PM

Shut up, Sid.

porsche4life 05-23-2013 11:00 PM

Wow, what a rather adult response....

I'm out, good luck in your truck hunt. Although it doesn't seem someone who knows it all will need much.

onewhippedpuppy 05-24-2013 04:03 AM

Hey Milt, you ever notice that a cloud seems to follow around your threads? You are constantly complaining about something or someone, but never seem to look in the mirror. Your customers don't appreciate you, can't find a truck, and dammit that airport I moved in next to is making a lot of NOISE! Ever consider looking in the mirror?

If you know your market so well, why did you start a thread complaining about how you can't find a truck in SoCal? Nevermind the fact that I can find a multitude of them in your area, you know your market! Though I suppose you also claim to be a jack of all trades but constantly complain about how nobody will hire you. But it's all about them, right? Always somebody else's fault. It's not too late to take responsibility for yourself you know.

I actually genuinely wanted to help you find a truck, but as far as I'm concerned you can go eff off. Aren't you overdue for one of your big dramatic "I'm outta here" threads, after which you reappear one week later like nothing has happened? Later dude, and good luck finding your Aztec.

exc911ence 05-24-2013 05:36 AM

Must be plenty of these classy manure-haulers running around SoCal:

I had one for about 2 years.
2wd with limited slip. That thing drove VERY nice and went everywhere I needed it to go.
Towed a 20' enclosed trailer and couldnt tell it was there.

Got rid of it because it was a compromise between an SUV and pickup, but not as good as either.
Kind of a pain to keep removing the rear panels to convert to a pick up.
Went with an extra cab Titan with no regrets.

I sure do. And that cloud seems to have 2 names. Everyone else seems to be OK with what's being said here. Some might even understand.

A quote from the used car manager at the dealership I once worked at, "I hope we see some trucks come in on trade this weekend (Memorial Day) because all of us need them. The thing is, the customers know what they have and it's hard to get them for any kind of price. Especially anything that isn't a miler or a roach."

Now he could have been blowing smoke to create a sense of urgency because that's one of the precepts of selling. Or, he could have been more or less telling it like it is.

Traveling to the Midwest to look for and buy a vehicle is a difficult task. It won't be any different than shopping in SoCal except I would be living in a motel while I look. A truck looks good on the monitor, but the monitor can't smell it. Funny, too, that all the little cigarette burn marks never show up in the best of pics.

I saw one that looked pretty good overall after spending 15 minutes on it. The interior was clean enough although it smelled. I reached up and turned down the passenger side visor and looked at the mirror. There was a complete crime scene on the glass. The detailers forgot to wipe that down. No, it wasn't blood, just a telltale of what that truck looked like the week before.

If you had bought my current truck from me 3 years ago, you would have gotten a near show piece. There are vehicles out there that are meticulously cared for. Somewhat of a needle in a haystack, but at least I'm not looking from a motel room.

One more thing. You remember our resident car locator that left here recently because of what a sewer this place is. Well, I have been in touch. Given my parameters, he hasn't turned up anything yet. I'm not disappointed because I know the task.

You didn't want to help me or you would have. Just pounding away at your keyboard doesn't constitute help. The trucks that P4L listed were nothing special. One was a salvage title that he thought was an exciting deal, another priced at stone retail just like I was saying they were. And so on. You act like I can't see those on my own.

So you see, I'm not as fooked up as you may think I am. So, take your cloud and move it somewhere else. IOW, shut up, Matt http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...eys/spankA.gif
