Thanks for the support and suggestions guys. I can't plant anything that requires water, H2O is super expensive here, and you don't want to water under oak trees, it will kill them quickly. Some of my oaks are well over 100 years old. I may look at some cramp-ons for my boots just so I can get a bite on the slopes, the biggest pain of the whole thing is staying steady on the slopes and not sliding down while doing the weedwacking. I couldn't imagine using a mower, I can barely walk up those slopes without sliding down.

Hugh;

I feel your pain.... I moved out of Sun Valley, up in a canyon in '89.

Have lived a number of places since.

Am just closing out the house in Athens, Alabama. No weedwhacking here, it's harvest time. Mow the lawn twice a week now. They don't sell sprinklers here, of any kind. Every 5th or 6th day, you get a couple of inches of rain, and then 80+ sun for 5 days.

From now on, all the gardening chores will be the responsibility of wherever we have parked for the time being.

Not sure if your place is big enough, but I have seen this done in some local hillsides and it works great, even for brush.

I doubt a Coyote would take down a grown goat, at least if it is running free. I may be mistaken. The long tail big cats - that's another story.

I like goats. They make a good curry! ;)

DR Trimmer Mowers (string trimmers) | DR Power Equipment

We have two Stihl weed whackers. One that is easy to fill the line that does`nt run worth a dang and the other that runs and is a royal PITA to coil the line up into.

The DR line looks like the tool to do the trick.

groups of Coyotes will go after domestic goats - wild goats have no problem with coyotes

Here we have Rent-A-Goat and others - the nice thing is that you don't have to worry re coyotes - the goat owner takes care of that.

Thanks Randy, I'm now looking into that.

I told Joanna that I wanted to rent a sheep.

She looked at me odd.
