1985 Johnson 6hp gas oil mix ratio?
I'm thinking 40:1, any idea where I can find out?

For my 1987 30 Johnson the factory originally stated 100:1 but apparently they had some engines go boom so 50:1 is now recommended. I would go 50:1 should work just fine.

You can not have too much oil. We have some race karts that like 16:1, My shifter ran best 30:1 and my Rotax practices @ 40:1 and races 50:1

Too much oil raises the viscosity of the fuel mixture, lowering the flow rate through the jet and can lead to a lean mixture. Under load, you might not like the results. Best Les

Thanks for the info Les. I have been running my chainsaw and weedeater at 35:1 instead of the recommended 50:1 thinking a little more oil is good for it.
