I had one of those big yellow square Accel coils explode on me, and it sort of looked like that. Like those fourth of July snakes that you light, and they grow, were coming out of it in every direction.

I initially thought bad main seal flung oil, but there is a shiny spot. It is internal.
My guess is that there was a bad plug/rotor/wire which prevented spark to continue back to battery. As a result the coil internally shorted, heated up to critical, and pooped out its oil. |

This usually happens to older ignition systems with points and the switch left ON and the points happen to be .
