The USS Midway is pretty cool.
I had nice meal at The Fish Market seafood market & restaurant next to the Midway. Farther down the baywalk south of the Midway is a place called the Ocean front village... kind of touristy but beautiful shops food/ice cream people and live music. My wife and I were there a few weeks ago for a weekend get away. |

Haha! TJ would be great, but not going to happen with the family. Not because I think it would be inappropriate, but because my wife would think we end up kidnapped and without kidneys etc ...

I toured the USS Midway last Sat. Excellent outing. Also go eat amazing dive Mexican food at Los Cuatros Milpas. And eat amazing Sichuan food at Spicey City on Convoy.

If you're into beer, there are lots of great microbreweries to check out - Stone, Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, Alesmith, etc.
Head out to Point Loma and Cabrillo National Park. Have drinks at Bertrand at Mr. A's and watch the airplanes arrive into SD airport. Museums at Balboa Park - check out the SR-71 in front of the aerospace museum. Head up the coast to La Jolla. Go hiking in Torrey Pines park.

I always tell people to check out the San Diego Reader online. Last time I looked, it had about anything & everything happening, especially for the time when people are visiting. Las Cuatro Milpas? I haven't been there in 30 years. Didn't know the place still existed. If it's like it used to be, it's a great place to experience & good food too.

Wild Animal Park
Legoland? Carlsbad flowers? Star of India Del Mar racetrack - not sure when your trip is. Races start mid-July I think. They have a concert series after the races too. |

I work near the Carlsbad flower field. It looks like most of the flowers have died off in the last week. But if you are around Carlsbad for Legoland etc.. check out Tip Top Meats, a great German restaurant. I would definitely add the Midway as a stop, I did a lot of restoration work on the focsle and the CPO mess. Also check out the Flying leatherneck museum at Miramar, It's free.

Wild Animal Park (oh, I see they call it Safari Park now) - great to see animals in a more natural setting than the zoo.
