Way Way Way Ot

...but perhaps I can get an answer before the Klingons find this thread.

Where can I get phonograph needles?

emcon5 07-23-2002 09:41 AM

Used to get them at Radio Shack, but that was a LONG time ago.

www.jandr.com sells both turntables and cartridges. Guess it depends on how old your turntable is?

Groesbeck Hurricane 07-23-2002 09:47 AM

And does anyone know where to get a MM/MC switch??? My old receiver is almost dead and the kids (18 or so) at Radio Shack looked at me like I was Andurian or something....

If you mean a stand alone phono stage/pre-amp, Audio Advisor sells a pretty good Sumiko box.

Good luck,

Tim

Call Southern Electronics @ 318 222 8795. Ask for Rudy. Lots of NOS stuff.

What's a phonograph ? :-)

bento 07-23-2002 11:19 AM

if you like vinyl, go buy some techincs

technics sl1200 are the industry standard direct drive turntable. as far as needles go, i would recomend an ortofon. then again i also recomend that you buy two turntables and a vestax mixer so that you can cut and scratch, but to each their own.

good luck

Ahh...the turntables!

:)

Ortophon makes best pickups (MC) ... best arm: SME series V , combine it with Thorens turntable, good MC prestage and some good tube amplifier...yummy!

Thanks, folks. The cartridge is Audio Technica, so we'll see.

David, a turntable is a device that was popular when young people listened to MUSIC.

Tube amps.....totally agree. Totally.

You never told me you were into "vintage audio", Jim.
Some time in the near future, you must visit our little music room....not a transistor to be found. Just the warm glow of the wonderful bottles!
