The Front of Car Looks like a Face

It has often been noted that the front ends of many car look like faces, and IIRC someone at P AG (or back in the days of P KG) said the round headlights were a important part of the look of the Porsche "face"

Well, I just happened upon this:

People use the same brain module (a sub-component in the brain) to recognize cars and trucks that we use to recognize human faces. This was based on a functional MRI study.

Gauthier, Gore, Anderson. 2000. Expertise for cars and birds recruits brain areas involved in face recognition. Nature Neuroscience 3(2): 191-97.

I wonder if designers tend to make the fronts of cars look like faces, and if the same brain module is involved during the design phase...

Yep. And just like humans, some are beautiful and others not so much.

That Porsche is sad because someone took her to the plastic surgeon and he made her look like a cheap whore.

Bill Douglas 06-04-2013 10:30 PM

Talking about the cheap whore look (I quite like it). The new Audis, with the row of little lights along the top of the headlamps, look like ridiculous false eyelashes generally worn by cheap whores and cross dressers.
