I'm always amazed at how everyone in these period films is so blissfully unaware of what was looming on the horizon in a few years. Good stuff, though.

This is my general memory of NYC, 1970's

What was "looming on the horizon" in 1939?

And why are you amazed these people are unaware of it?

You'd have to be referring to WWII. I don't know how you'd be amazed no one saw that one coming.

Thanks for posting, very cool. The soundtrack was practically hypnotic.

No one thought that the US would get involved in what was a disturbance in Europe at the time, or foresaw Japan drawing us into war with the attack on Pearl Harbor.

It was just a rambling observation.

A simpler time for sure. Notice how many man were wearing ties. And almost every man had a hat on. My mentor in the diamond business, born 1908, use to say, "You are not dressed until you have your hat on".

perfect summary of urban life post-horse and pre-emissions controls on IC engines

imagine going out for a walk when horses were the only mode of transportation
