moment of terror
Wow just came home from a quick spin around the block in my 911sc.
Just got on the interstate running through the gears. All is well until I hit 4th gear and at 4000 the throttle stuck wide open. WOW in a second we were flying into traffic. Hit the key just in time got a backfire at shutoff. First time this ever happened I will have to check it out. they always go fast when you don't need them to go fast. |
My steering wheel got stuck at far right side going at speed through turn #17 at Sebring once......that was quite a bit of excitement! Luckily my Brembo's brought her to a quick stop. The pit marshall walked over and asked what the screeching was all about...heh heh.

Happened to me recently.
Seems the PO never installed the pedal throttle stop on the floorboard and I never noticed. Without it you can press the accelerator lever at the pedal cluster so far that it gets trapped behind the footwell sheet metal and won't return. Good times. |
I've had the throttle stick in a few cars over the years. Fortunately, it was never in anything that accelerated like a Porsche.
|
Had it happen in an old dodge 1500
It was scary enough in that....4th gear in a Pcar has to be nuts |
Happened in my 914 once, luckily in the garage. The clutch cable got wrapped around accelerator (even though I checked several times make sure it didnt) so when I pushed in the clutch to start it it roared to life and kept going. Took me a second to realize what was going on, just glad I didn't damage anything...scared the crap out of me!

For a while I had a W900A Kenworth with a really turned up Cummins 400
The throttle stuck on a side road heading for a 90 degree corner YIKES I just about shat myself, the brakes weren't even slowing it down The smoke from the stack was black as coal. Hit the key at the last second |
Exact same thing a couple of years ago in the '74. I was running through the gears accelerating on to IH37 when the bushings for the accelerator pedal completely disintegrated. The accelerator just flopped around with the engine stuck at 4500 rpm.

Good to hear normal people have the sanity to deal with this situation. Just goes to prove even further what a load of crock this is:
Stuck Gas Pedal Takes Woman On Crazy Ride |
When we had the SS 3.2 in the spyder, it was a pretty zippy 280 or so horses to less-than-1600 soaking wet car. I was screwing around, blowing off a little steam, and decided to rip the throttle open. Lucky for me, I was only in 2nd 'cause that sucker stuck wide open and it was sphincter clamping event of mortal terror as I rocketed toward the ass-end of a semi in a car low enough to squeeze under the tread.
Lotsa brake and switch throwing (ignition packs) followed by a change of panties. It's one thing to have a slow car's throttle stick. Gets very, very exciting in something like a spyder. Needless to say, I added a 2nd throttle return spring after that. angela |

Nice, that old one sounds like it runs pretty well. ;)
That was funny. The kids were outta there, but it didn't seem like it phased the old guy much at all. |
Fun times!

Happened to me in a Duece and a half (2.5 ton army truck), coming down a long hill into a little village. Scared the beejeezus out of me, but I did it right an managed to stop the juggernaut right at the village edge. Fixed it and continued another 4.5 hours of convoy driving.

How the hell did your steering wheel come off, Ryan?
|
my go pedal stuck to the orig floor board once - happened in a parking lot when I dropped the clutch to do a burn out. That shall never happen again...
|
Just picked up my SC after an engine rebuild, getting off the interstate, pedal went wide open. Pulled to the side, shut down engine. Checked linkage, it was jamed on the tin. Just bent it out of the way. Scared the %hit out of me.
|
I had that happen on my 64 850 cc Mini Cooper once. It got all the way up to 45 mph in the 5 minutes it took me to shut it off.
