I am next to 100% that George owned this 930.

gorthar 06-10-2013 05:13 PM

I seem to recall in Cynthia Lennon's book that John did buy that 912 for her, but then traded it for something else.

ramonesfreak 06-10-2013 05:15 PM

Im aware of John's. I think he bought it for Cynthia and she didnt like it and John rarely drove any car

Wasnt aware of George owning a 930. Never seen that pic of him...there is a 911 next to the 930...maybe he is at a car show?

gorthar 06-10-2013 05:33 PM

It's entirely possible that is Georges' 930, I recall in a biography that he raced some type of 911, I remember there was a picture of him standing next to it with a drivers suit on. As a life long Porsche nut it was the type of thing that stood out to me

Read the first sentence...sounds like it was his....then look closely at his front license plate "YOU 5"
Giddins@Porsche: George Harrison

Most likely he did, can't tell if this is the same car though:

I will check with my bud Phill. He grew up in Liverpool... now married to a midwestern girl and living in Kansas. He is completely freaked out by all the tornadic activity since moving a few years ago. :D

He does not check email often and is ever worse at replying, but since he's a car guy and a huge Beatles fan, he may know the answer to this one.

He actually bumped into Sir Paul one afternoon walking in Liverpool. He was about to cross the street, looked both ways, and when he spun his head in one direction, got the shock of his life. Phill was listening to Broad Street through earbuds, and when he pulled them out to say hello, Paul asked what he was listening to. When Philly told him, Paul said, "Good on you, mate." :)

Linda Eastman was no relation to the Eastman's of the Kodak fortune.

Well, Philly came through in record time...

John,

I have no idea, but I shall look into it straight away. Give me a few hours, and I'll see what I can come up with.

Knowing Paul McCartney it is probably his car. I know round that time he had a convertible Rolls Royce, but hey it's Paul McCartney he owns all kinds of stuff.

John,

I have an answer of sorts, It looks to me that the Porsche is McCartney's, and the kid on the right is a fan from Newcastle in England, who paul is signing an autograph for. So looks like it's a Macca Motor !

Correct, Linda was a photographer so it became an urban misconception.

That's a suburban misconception. I don't live in the city. :D

Interesting!

I had a GF once who worked directly for a big (biggest) film director and Paul was visiting and they needed to know a good vegetarian place to eat in L.A. so my GF called me and I got on the internet and found a place which he presumably ended up at thanks to me...this was 15 years ago and the web was not well developed regarding such reviews so who knows if I sent him to a dump. Thats my closest encounter with a Beatle :p Thanks for inventing the internet Al Gore!!! :D

George Harrison owned several Porsches, black 928S, black 924 Carrera GT, Gold 930 3 litre turbo (which he gave to Olivia) and black 3.3 turbo registered YOU 5. I took the photo of him at Silverstone 1979 at the Gunnar Nielson Cancer Releif event with his black 3.3 turbo YOU 5. He also had Olivia gold 3 litre turbo there as well. I also took photos of the whole event organised by Maltin Car concessionaires.

George was a huge fan of cars and motor sports. Of course many know he had close friends in F1.
I remember reading a Rolling Stone article about George around 1988, he picked up the author of the story in his Ferrari 275 GTB.

This is hearsay but dated a smokin' hot Russian babe from Montreal for maybe a minute in the mid 80's.

She said George was hitting on her at an F1 race in the pits.

Good for him. RIP, George.
