All this talk of shipping a 911 to Europe....how about a couch?

Been reading the thread on shipping a 911 to Europe, must admit it is tempting and the pricing does not seem too absurd....so I will dig into it more deeply.

But, the subject of this thread is how to ship a couch? We have a high end, German made sectional leather couch that we can't use but would fit perfectly in a friends place in Rotterdam, Holland...right combination of parts, colour, everything...

If I could ship it to him for less than $1000 or so, it would make good economic sense (a new one is about $7500). Don't really care when exactly it goes there, just want it to arrive undamaged.

I checked with one shipper and he suggested using a whole container (about $4000), which is both wasteful and too expensive.

Anyone know whether this is even economically feasible or whether I should just move on..

I am in Calgary, Alberta by the way....

Dennis

Probably need to find a local shipping broker, who rents containers and stuffs them with multiple customer's shipments. They are out there. I sent some Mercedes AMG wheels that way several years ago.

I do this a lot to the UK, I have family that doesn't like paying VAT or waiting on certain medical devices, new electronics, etc. Post an add on Craigslist looking to share a shipping container, people will respond and often times they will add your small stuff for free.

I've shipped furniture from North Carolina to the UK for about $500 (my share of a shared container.) What you will find is people that are moving back and forth overseas that possibly have a relocation package paying for their move, and they don't mind making a few bucks on the side.
